Cathedral

The cathedral is located on Placa de la Catedral and has become one of Girona's major attractions. The cathedral is reached by climbing a staircase of 90 steep steps in true 17th-century baroque style. The cathedral dates back to the 14th century and is a true representation of Gothic, Roman and Catalan baroque architectural styles. Located right inside the cathedral, you will find a 23m nave, which is broadest in the history of Gothic architecture.

The cathedral also features a cloister and a museum, displaying historical goods dating back to the 10th to 13th centuries.

The cathedral is open daily from 9am - 1pm and during the museum visiting hours. The museum and cloister's opening hours depend largely on the seasons, visitors are thus advised to contact the museum prior to their visit on Tel: 97 221 44 26.

Museu de Cinema

The museum is locate on Sequia 1.The museum was only opened recently and is the only film museum of its kind in Spain. The museum is home to the collection of Tomas Mallol, which features more than 25 000 artifacts, some dating back to 1970. The museum also features photographs, posters, engravings, drawings, paintings and 800 films featuring different periods and styles in film history. The museum is also home to a library where one can find information regarding film-related publications.

Open Mon - Fri 10am - 6pm, Sat 10am - 8pm & Sun 11am - 3pm. Admission cost is Adults $3.7 and Children $1.9

Esglesia de Sant Feliu

The 14th to 17th century church is located in Pujada de Sant Feliu. The church was built over what is believed to be the tomb of Feliu of Africa. The church is considered to be a very important feature of the architectural history of Catalonia and features pillars and arches built in true Roman style and also features a Gothic nave. The landmark also features a large bell tower, supported on a large solid octagonal base, holding pinnacles and one central tower.

The interior of the church is littered with exceptionally beautiful artworks, featuring a 14th century Reclining Christo and a 16th century altarpiece.

The church is open daily from 7am - 1pm & 4pm - 6:30pm. Admission is free of charge.

Museu d'Art

The museum is located in Pujada de la Catedral, 12. It is home to the most amazing displays of artworks which span over 10 centuries situated inside a former Roman and Gothic Episcopal palace. Located in the throne room, visitors can expect to find the altarpiece of Sant Pere of Pubol, which was created by Bernat Martorell and the altarpiece of Sant Miguel de Cruilles, created by Luis Borrassa.

The museum also features the altar stone of Sant Pere de Roda, ranging from the 10th and 11th century. The work depicts legends and figures, was once covered and embossed in silver and consists of wood and stone. Also on view is an alabaster carving of Our Lady of Besalu, which dates back to the 15th century.

Admission cost is Adults $2.5 and children $1.7

Museu d'Historia de la Ciutat

The museum is located in Carrer de la Forca in the 18th century Capuchin Convent de Sant Antoni. The museum is home to a collection of goods which range from the era of Catalonia's oldest prehistoric site, to the present day. The museum features an interesting collection of Giron and Spain's first streetlights, as well as tools and technical materials.

Recovered from the original convent, to this day, there still remains the cemetery which was used for drying corpses before they were mummified. The cemetery is one of only three of its kind that remains in the world.

The museum is open Tue - Sat 10am - 2pm & 5pm - 7pm, Sun 10am - 2pm. Admission cost is $2.5

Hostal de la Gavina

The hotel is located in Placa de la Rosaleda and was opened in 1980. The hotel oozes extravagance and luxury and has been the home to many a famous person including, King Juan Carlos and Elizabeth Taylor. The hotel is finished with Marble and wooden floors and furnished with hand-carved ebony and parquetry furniture. The rooms feature crystal lamps from Murano, wool rugs from India and the walls are adorned with gold and silk.

Mas de Torrent

The hotel is located in Afueras de Torrent and is only a 15 minute drive from the beaches of Costa Brava. The hotel features a restaurant and bar. Visitors have the option to stay in either the main building, garden suites or luxe suites with a swimming pool. The garden suites feature 20 bungalows which overlooks the magnificent gardens of the hotel. They also feature their own neat little garden and direct access to the swimming pool.

El Cellar de Can Roca

The restaurant is located in Carrer Taiala 40 and serves the most delicious Catalan cuisine in the area. The restaurant is run by three brothers and features a very intimate and romantic atmosphere, consisting of only 12 dining tables. The traditional Catalan cuisine which is available is combined with contemporary Mediterranean style dishes, ensuring a very interesting selection of foods. Their specialties includes a starter consisting of avocado puree and a desert which consists of mandarin orange sorbet with pumpkin compote.

Reservations are recommended and can be made by contacting the restaurant on Tel: 97 222 21 57. The restaurant is open Tue - Sat 9am - 11pm.

Sant Pau

The restaurant is located on Carrer Nou 10 and has become one of the most popular dining places in the area. It features one of Spain's leading female chef's and even attracts other top chef's from France to sample her unique dishes. One of the major reasons why the restaurant is so popular, is because of her natural ability to take the freshest ingredients and add the correct amount of spice and seasoning to bring out the food's best flavour.

Reservations are required due to the popularity of the restaurant and can be made by contacting the restaurant on Tel: 937 60 06 62. The restaurant is open Tue - Sat 9am - 1pm and Tue - Sun 1:30pm - 3:30pm.

El Bulli

Located on Cala Montjoi Roses, headed by the famous and most exciting chef in Spain Fernando Adria. The restaurant is operated by Fernando and carries the honour of receiving a 3 star Michelin accolade. One of the great surprises offered by the restaurant is the 12 course tasting menu, which allows visitors to indulge in a selection of foods which the innovative chef has to offer.

Their specialties include dishes such as polenta chips and caramelized sunflower seeds and lasagna consisting of calamari. Reservations are required and can be made by contacting the restaurant on Tel: 972 15 04 57. The restaurant is open daily 8am - 10:30pm.

The guide, who speaks fluent English, is a local resident who is very knowledgeable about the area, and leads tours through the medieval Jewish neighborhood, the Gothic cathedral, and other locations.
