Top 10 Things in Costa Blanca on a Short Break
Denia
At the northern point of the Costa Blanca or White Coast in English. The town caters for the well heeled tourist and has a number of attractions including an 18th century castle, 2 museums of local interest, a toy museum and a delightful esplanade.
They like their Fiestas here and hold several throughout the year, including a sort of aquatic running of the bulls in July.

Javea
A lovely sheltered holiday resort just a few kms south of Denia. Javea consists of some popular beaches and coves, surrounded by rugged cliffs. Dominated by the mountain known as The Montgo. The port is a very pleasant stroll and you can watch the fishermen bring back their catches, and then maybe try some in one of the many restaurants, cafes and bars lining the promenade.

Calpe
Located about 20km south of Denia, this very popular tourist destination gets a bit hectic in the height of summer, but is a good place to visit as there is a mix of sandy beaches and many interesting ancient buildings, museums and nature walks to the salt flats to view flamingos and herons. The modern promenade attracts the visitor with many food and water holes overlooking the sea.

Alicante
The largest town on the Costa Blanca is dominated by the Castle of Santa Barbara, which is a worthwhile trip and commands stunning views over the town and coast. Many other places of interest including museums, theme park, nature parks, fine beaches and a vibrant nightlife make this an ideal destination for young and old. A Fiesta nearly every month and a great esplanade completes the picture.

Benidorm
The town was made famous(Or rather infamous) in the late 60s by the hordes of British and German package tourists invading the town. Nevertheless it's a nice town to visit in the quiet parts of the year. The old town boasts a castle and fine old church. There are a couple of pleasant parks, museums and plenty of kids amusements including the massive Aqualand.

Murcia
This is a fascinating city that lies 20km inland from the coastal town of Cartagena. No hordes of tourists here, just Spain at her casual best. The Cathedral of Santa Maria is a beautiful structure and it's vestiges are immaculately decorated with the added attraction of an in house museum. There is a lavishly decorated palace that operates as a casino and a couple of museums including an interesting one on bullfighting.

Torrevieja
This town is located on the coast about 30kms south of Alicante. Populated with expat Europeans as are many towns along this coast. Torrevieja derives it's name from the Old Tower and is famous for the salt lakes that are in the area. Apart from salt, fishing and tourism keep the town blooming. The town has a salt museum, lively fish market and friendly working harbour. Lovely white sand beaches complete a sunny picture.

Altea
This charming beach town is located 11 kms north of Benidorm, but a million miles apart in atmosphere. If you want discos, pubs and chips with everything, they are not to be found here. Instead a more refined pace to life. Altea is marked by the church with it's blue and white mosaic domed roof. A centre for the arts and crafts scene that has been thriving here since the early 60s. The small pebble beach promenade is the place for the massive Tuesday market.

Elche
This beautiful town is surrounded by date palms, going back to their planting by Muslims in the 10th century. This is now on the World Heritage list and protected by them. The town itself is only about 10km inland from Alicante and is known for it's quality footwear. The Priest's Garden is one of the highlights of the town along with the cool semi-tropical park. A great place for a short break as the busy coast is just a short drive away.

La Manga
Located on the southern tip of Costa Blanca. The town can boast of 40 kms of white sandy beaches interspersed with luxurious holiday resorts.
La Manga translates in English to The Sleeve (referring to the shape of the peninsula). Not much in the way of culture, but if you enjoy those all inclusive resorts, like La Manga Club or Hyatt Regency Hotel and some of the top golf courses in Spain, also of course plenty of restaurants, sports and fitness centres.
