OUR HOLIDAY IN MASSA LUBRENSE
Many thanks to a very friendly family, Signora Maria Persico and her sons Giovanni and Antonio (who both speak excellent English), for a delightful holiday in their villa in the hills above Massa Lubrense, close to Sorrento. We stayed for one week in June 2001 and enjoyed every minute. The apartment was spacious and modern and fully deserved the description "of optimal quality". Outside, the terrace was thankfully well shaded and the Bay of Naples with the island of Capri was just visible through the olive and lemon trees. The roads are very narrow and access would have been difficult for anything but the smallest car, but public transport is easy if you are prepared for a little walking. Fifteen minutes down to Massa, and then buses about every hour to Sorrento, costing 1 euro for the single journey. Giovanni very kindly ferried us and our luggage between Sorrento and the apartment. From Sorrento we visited Pompeii and Capri with ease on the train or hydrofoil. There are many well-marked local walks, and we enjoyed one of them which took us from near Massa's semi-detached small port, up a hill overlooking Massa itself and then down into the town. In common with the rest of the coastline, the port was rocky and had no real beach, but this didn't stop people from sizzling in the sun on the big flat slabs of stone laid along the shore.
There were several reasonable restaurants and plenty of small grocery, vegetable and delicatessen shops. We much appreciated the artichoke hearts bottled by the mother of one of the shopkeepers and the local red wine we tasted was enjoyable, although the only bottle of white we bought was poor. The one time we would have been grateful for a car was when carrying our bulk purchase of water and wine up the hill!
We hope to return in a few years to do some more of the walks, see the amazing Pompeii again, visit Naples and Vesuvius, admire the Amalfi coast, and enjoy again the hospitality of Maria, Giovanni and Antonio. Oh yes - and buy another bottle or two of Maria's smooth home-made limoncello.

My husband and I just returned from our trip to Italy. It was my second and my husband's first.
My being of Italian descent; it was very important to me that this visit to Italy was one that would leave my husband with a real sense of the Italian culture while at the same time experience the tourist aspect of what Italy has to offer.
I searched long and hard to find just the right place to make such an experience possible and when I came across villaromantia; in Massa Lubrense - somehow I got the feeling I found just what I was looking for.
Maybe it was opportunity to view the many photos that were available on the website that showed the grounds of this beautiful and very local residential getaway with all it's olive and lemon trees and the beautiful views the area has to offer while at the same time knowing that Sorrento; Amalfi, Positano, Capri and all of the other fabulous towns to visit are just a short distance away. The decision to spend our holiday at villaromantica was an easy one.
It wasn't until we actually arrived that we realized how true this was.
Maria,Giovanni, Antonio and their gracious and very sincere hospitality was more than I ever would have imagined.
From the moment my husband and I saw Giovanni's smiling face and warm welcome as he met us at the train station; Antonio's enthusiasm and always willingness to lend a hand and all of Maria's efforts and concern at making sure we were as comfortable as we could possibly be.
The villa was immaculate; beautifully decorated with a modern flair, fully equipped, and upon our arrival; some unexpected surprises to make us feel welcomed in this place we called home for the time of our stay.
The walks to town were always one of our favorite things to do and at times when time allowed us, we'd venture off to explore new paths of beautiful local properties each with their own unique personality. We saw persimmon trees, prickly pear cactus plants, walnut trees, olive and lemon trees; kiwi vines fig trees and grape vines. It was a delightful experience.
The local shops and markets were a pleasure to go to and was one of the things I looked forward to the most.
Among the many places Giovanni recommended we visit was a beach that turned out to have breathtaking views and the most beautiful waters. We were never disappointed with any of the outings we chose to do.
Oh; listening to the beautiful sounds of the local church bells will be well missed also.The first time I heard them; it put tears to my eyes. Such a wonderful place to be. Such pure delight.
I will never forget our last evening; Maria's hospitality; Giovanni and Antonio's sweet goodbye with such warm expressions on each of their faces.
Thinking of them will always put a smile on my face.

Villaromantica proved to be just ideal for us. We met up with Giovanni, we were greeted with great charm and warmth, drove there through the charming lanes, then met Antonio and Maria and received lots of information of the area.
The accommodation was just delightful, tranquil and secure - such a lovely setting. Maria, Giovanni and Antonio were very attentive and facilities in the apartment were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the area but a week is just not enough to be able to really appreciate it all.
We look back on our stay there with much joy and happiness and one day would like to go back to stay at Villaromantica - a little piece of paradise.

We stayed in the 4 bed apartment in late August with our 4 children. Maria (owner) and son (Antonio) did a marvellous job aking us feel very welcome. If you want to experience the vineyards and get away from the noise, this is the place for you. Yes, you need to be prepared to walk 30 minutes to the shops and 45 minutes to Sorrento. Marvellous views from the balcony over the bay to Capri. This is perhaps the cleanest and best presented apartment we have experienced in Italy. Nothing is a problem for Maria. A great place for a couple of nights.

Abbiamo soggiornato nell'appartamento 4 posti letto nel tardo Agosto con i nostri 4 figli.Maria(la proprietaria) If you're looking for peace and quiet, this is the place for you. The property is beautiful but a little difficult to access - 20 minute walk to Massa, 10 minute walk + 15 miunute bus to Sorrento. If you have a car, make sure it's small enough to fit between the stone walls on the "streets" that lead to the property! Otherwise Giovanni will pick you up and leave you at the train station.

Lorsque vous arrivez � Sorrento (pour notre part, en train), le propri�taire vient vous chercher en auto et vous fait d�j� d�couvrir les alentours. Le pittoresque de l'endroit est la culture artisanale des olives, des citrons, des kiwis et autres fruits ainsi que l'environnement s'y rapportant : les petites ruelles tr�s �troites qui ne permettent en aucun cas le passage de grosses voitures mais par contre rendent possible des multitudes de promenades dans les hauteurs jusqu'� la mer. Randonneurs, � vos chaussures. Les autres, � proscrire. Bonnes vacances � tous.

We really enjoyed our holiday here, the family where very helpful and the appartment clear and very well equipped. On request the family provided an extra bed (recommended for teenage children). Due to the narrow driveway you should like walking alot or hire a small well insured car. The location is perfect for visiting Sorrento and the surrounding area.

It is a very good place to stay with a very good relationship Price/Quality. The only point against it has is that is it very difficult to access. There is no letter, no indications on the road and the road that leads to the place ( around 500 mts ) is extremely narrow. Only a small car could fit.

Accueil excellent et familial. Le propri�taire nous a donn� rendez-vous � Sorrento pour nous guider jusqu'� la villa. La rue qui m�ne � la maison est effectivement extr�mement �troite (croiser un v�hicule y est impossible...) Mieux vaut avoir un petit v�hicule : une Punto passe, par exemple. En demi-saison, la maison est plut�t fra�che donc mieux vaut demander � mettre le chauffage en arrivant. Seul petit manque (car tout le reste est parfait) : il n'y avait pas de savon � disposition. Bon rapport qualit� prix par rapport � la r�gion. Nous recommanderions volontiers cette location.

Really nice, quiet accommodation. I didn�t believe it, but you really should take a small car with you. Environment is in the hills above Massa Lubrense. An excellent place to relax in the nature. Especially in the 2person department you need good wheather to enjoy it, what you mostly have in that area.

Very engaged family! Nearby perfect! Only one minor thing to remark: do not use a big car to come to "Villa Romantica",the street is absolutely narrow! Best is come by train/bus the family will pick you up in Sorrento and most sightseeing tours can be made by train bus or ship!

This was a wonderful holiday venue, with delightful owners.It was a fantastic setting but being down a very narrow country lane we question the need for a hire car, particularly given the good public transport in the area.

Everything was great except the road to the house witch is rather small : a very little car (Fiat Punto for example) is hardly adviced.

My husband and I, along with another couple stayed at Villa Romantica in May 2003. Our stay was truely enjoyable. We wish we had stayed longer. We were welcomed very warmly by the family who own and run the villa. Any questions we had were happily and thoroughly answered. The apartment was spacious and clean. The location is beautiful. Our stay was very relaxing. We would highly recommend staying at Villa Romantica.
