| Arhanes, a beautiful little town in the Temenos prefecture, at an altitude of 380m and just 15 km from Heraklion -with a continuous habitation of 5.000 years- is one of the most important archaeological sites of Crete and has been characterised for its historical and traditional heritage. From prehistoric years to this date it has been an important financial centre of the surrounding area. It is speculated that in Arhanes lay the summer palace of King Minos. The area boasts a particular natural environment (gorges, hills, mountains, cultivable plain expanses, rare flora and fauna, but the buildings also encapsulate the neo-classical tradition with Venetian architecture. |

Guestbook: We are the couple that stayed at Villa Arhanes for two nights in mid August. We wanted to thank you very much for your kind hospitality, and the way that you made us feel so much at home during our first days on Crete. Your introduction and explanations, and the help of your friends - Panos and Anna - made the rest of our stay in Crete much more enjoyable.
As you may remember, we were continuing to a villa in Maroulas near Rethymno. I think you would have liked the villa - an old Venetian oil press converted to a luxurious villa, but retaining the character of the Venetian arches and walls - just like Villa Arhanes. On our way to the villa, we picked up a dozen bottles of the wines that you recommended from the Boutaris Winery, and they were very popular.
You also arranged for us to stay at the Atrion Hotel in Iraklio before our return home. This also was a great hotel, with an excellent location in Old Town.
