St. Martin's 37 square miles are home to over 400 restaurants; catering to every whim and palate. The average annual temperature is 84ºF or 27ºC. St. Martin is just a 2 3/4 hour plane ride from Miami, and a short 3 3/4 hours from New York. The Princess Juliana International Airport is the second busiest hub in the Caribbean. St. Maarten / St. Martin is a dual nation, with customs of both the Dutch and French. It is the smallest territory in the world shared by two sovereign nations. The French consider their half of the island much the same way the United States considers Hawaii; with the same laws, social services and rights. The Dutch side is a bit different, as it is not considered part of Holland. It is one of several Dutch territories that together make up the Netherland Antilles, which has its own Prime Minister and functions with its own government under Dutch law and guidance. The official languages are Dutch and French, although the most widely spoken language is English. The currency is the Guilder and the Euro, but the U.S. Dollar is accepted everywhere. Shoppers love the duty free status of St. Martin - no import or export taxes and a large array of shops offering a wide selection of the finest duty free luxury goods, the world has to offer.
Activities on St. Martin/St. Maarten abound! You can simply relax and enjoy one of the many sandy beaches (some of them very secluded), or if you want a bit more activity you may want to enjoy some of the many water sports there are to offer. You'll find snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, jet skiing are offered at many of the more commercial beaches, or charter a boat for some deep sea fishing.
