Casa Mariposa Blanca or House of the White Butterfly was once part of the XVI century Franciscan monastery, belonging to the Cathedral of Cuernavaca. This Cathedral was one of the first cathedrals erected in the New Spain by the Spanish conquistadors.
Many original features of the colonial times are present in this house, from floors, stairs to niches, tiles, doors and chimneys. Family Trevino (present owners) have maintained the charm of this house by furnishing it with typical Mexican furniture, handicrafts, paintings, antiques and lots of flower pots and greenery.
Probably one of the most fascinating features of this house is the roof terrace. The city centre is in full view as well as the mountains to the north. Best of all, the sun rise from amongst the two volcanoes (Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl) is truly breathtaking. A great place to breathe, relax and see the stars on a clear night.

Most cultural attractions of downtown Cuernavaca are just a few steps away, such as: Cathedral and the complex of old churches, Brady Museum, Cortez Palace, Museum of Cuahunahuac, Borda Gardens and Museum, Zocalo or Main Square.
There are art galleries such as: Casona de Spencer, Centro Morelense de las Artes and plenty of restaurants, shops and cafes nearby. There is a large supermarket called “Comercial Mexicana” two blocks away, following down avenue Morelos. There is a small bus station one block away (corner of calle Netzahualcoyotl and calle Abasolo) this bus station is called Pullman Centro and has services to Mexico City’s southern bus station: Taxqueña. |

Guestbook: If you are considering a visit to Cuernavaca, staying at the Casa Mariposa Blanca is a must. It offers both beauty and convenience. The house itself whispers of its long history as it rises up through multiple levels, crowned by a rooftop deck. In my week stay not a sunrise or sunset was missed from this vantage point. I also enjoyed the inside/outside feel of the house, created by its numerous terraces.
On the practical side, there is a large grocery store just down the road that can meet all your daily needs and then some. There is also a first class bus station nearby to connect you with Mexico City and points beyonds. Since the house is in the historic district of Cuernavaca, nearly all of the main sightseeing spots are within a short walk. Don't miss the Brady Museum. (It shares a common wall with the Casa Mariposa Blanca.)
From start to finish in the rental process the Trevino family was responsive and helpful. They even provided a detailed orientation packet that included, among many other things, a clear guide to get me from the airport in Mexico City to the front door of the house. I've rented houses and apartments all over Latin America and never received this kind of support.
Cuernavaca truly does deserve its reputation as being the city of eternal springtime. The Casa Mariposa Blanca provides the perfect location in which to strike out and explore the surrounding charm and beauty.

We would just like to thank you for a most enjoyable stay in Cuernavaca. What a wonderful city and home. We were so close to everything and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The house is so spacious and we felt very safe in that neighborhood. The fountain was very soothing and the view from the top was amazing.
