Day 1 - Three different common daytrips for first-time visitors: 1st option:
CENTRO HISTORICO including the Zocalocentral plaza, National Palace (Diego Rivera murals), Templo Mayor (remnants of Aztec civilization). Focus depends on your interests: can be more historical, archeological, focused on prehispanic culture and beliefs. If interested, we will go on the metro (cheapest in the world, moves 5 million people a day!), get a glimpse of current day "common" Mexico. Visit La Merced market. Walk around the Historical Center. Cut, or add more, activities according to your interest and energy.
| Day 2 - 2nd example of a one-day journey for first time visitors: SOUTHERN Mexico City --
Coyoacan, including the Frida Kahlo and Leon Trotsky museums, as well as the Museum of Popular and Indigenous Culture. Walk around this green and well-preserved colonial part of town. Visit the campus of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, an excellent public university with over 300,000 students. This national project includes a beautiful campus on volcanic rock, and many building murals by important Mexican muralists/artists. Includes outdoor "wilderness" area and a developed campus. This would fill a day. Other options in southern Mexico City include Xochimilico, where you can still see the canal system that the Aztecs developed to create agricultural land in this swamp area. (takes 3 hrs)
| Day 3 - 3rd example of a one-day journey - STREET LIFE AND CURRENT AFFAIRS - CHOOSE 2 OR 3 OF THE FOLLOWING CHOICES:
Visit a non-profit organization of your choice (see some ideas on Educational Journeys page of the site), interview the Program Director, learn about the organization's activities and reasons for doing the work they do. Visit street markets, food markets, get to know the local fruits/vegetables/street food. If you like to cook, we can arrange a day with a typical Mexican mother, you go to the market, buy food, cook and eat it together. Have a one (or more) night homestay in a low or middle-income family, satisfaction guaranteed (only for those interested in interacting with families, no Spanish required). See street art, graffiti. |

We arrange the most appropriate guide, depending on your interests. Some want information about historical and cultural details, so we arrange a guide who is a historian, anthropologist, architect ... Others want to delve into current-day Mexico City, especially low-income Mexico City, in a way that is safe and yet challenging. Still others want to meet and interview people or non-profit organizations active in a particular field of interest. Business or research travellers sometimes just need an excellent simultaneous translator. We can also provide contacts or recommendations for good hotels (at whatever price range you want) and transport services. PLEASE NOTE THAT PRICE PROVIDED HERE IS FOR A ONE-DAY JOURNEY OF YOUR CHOICE. |
