A very special chauffeur-driven holiday for up to three people. Explore James Herriot's Yorkshire Dales, William Wordsworth's Lake District, and the ancient City of York.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive Manchester Airport, here you will be met by your personal chauffeur-guide and driven in the comfort of the luxurious Bentley Mulsanne to your accommodation in the Yorkshire Dales.
(There is range of different accommodation available, from staying in a Dales farmhouse, to one of Yorkshires finest Country Houses)
Discuss plans for the week with your chauffeur-guide, it will be your choice how you wish to spend each day at whatever pace you prefer;
We will provide a suggested itinerary for you to choose from, taking into account your personal interests and also bearing in mind the weather forecast for the week.
Great Britain provides a great wealth of history together with beautiful countryside. You will see parts of England that most tourists never see or experience. Spend as much time as you need to take in the views or stroll leisurely around the ruined abbeys, breath the fresh air and smell the scented gardens. Enjoy the beauty of the hills and Dales of Herriot Country.
A typical example of a Herriot-Country Tour would include the following:
Day 2
Visit the fascinating Herriot Museum, set in the original Kirkgate vetinary practice and home of Alf Wight for many years. The house and surgery have been recreated as they would have been in the 1940s.
Discover the historic market town of Thirsk, known as Darrowby in James Herriots books.
Day 3
We will take you over the high fells in our luxorious 4x4 vehicle. See for yourself the beautiful scenery as described so vividly in Herriots books. We will stop at locations used in the filming of the TV series.
View the Whitestone cliffs, where Alf Wight enjoyed walking his dogs. From here he described having the finest views across the vales to the Pennines.
Visit the many unspoilt villages of the Dales which are still much the same as when Alf Wight would have known them.
Day 4
Near the village of Aysgarth, the river Ure tumbles over a series of broad limestone steps which are known as Aysgarth Falls. In spring time the woodside banks are covered in bluebells and primroses.
Explore Bolton Castle, a massive fortress dominating Wensleydale since 1379. It has connections with Richard II. Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned here for six months.
Tour the dramatic and extensive remains of Rievaulx Abbey, once one of the most powerful medieval monasteries in Britain. Set in the beautiful Rye valley.
Day 5
Spend a day amongst the rugged mountains of Wordsworth's Lake District, visiting two of his former homes; Rydal House and Dove Cottage.
Day 6
Take a guided tour of the magnificent York Minster, a remembrance service for Alf White was held here.
Visit the shops in the small streets, known as the Shambles in the Medieval City of York before returning to Manchester Airport for your return flight.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
