Join us for walking holidays along Dorset's Jurassic Coast (England's only Natural World Heritage Site). All-inclusive, small group holidays staying at The Pound Stables - guided or self-guided.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in the afternoon at The Pound Stables. We are in Stoborough, The Gateway to the Isle of Purbeck and the start of your time with us. After settling in, a home-cooked, three-course meal follows and maybe you will relax in the landscaped garden or take a walk down to the River Frome?
Day 2
Away after a full English Breakfast with your first packed lunch for one of the real classics of this beautiful area. We start in the Purbeck Stone village of Worth Matravers and walk out onto the coast around St. Aldhelm's Head with it's small, square Chapel and on to the old stone quarries at Winspit and Seacombe. From here, as with most of our walks, you can take a shorter route back to Worth (The Square and Compass is a great little Pub!) or go further along the coast to Dancing Ledge and then back along the Priest's Way
Day 3
Today we might start at the famous Dorset landmark of Lulworth Cove and walk the Coast Path to the east through our live military ranges (they don't fire most week-ends!). We visit the 140 million year old Fossil Forest and go steeply up and over Flower's Barrow prehistoric Hill Fort and then past Worbarrow Tout, over Gad Cliff to Kimmeridge Bay. You will sleep well after this day!
Day 4
Inland today and up on the Dorset Downs. We start in one of the Melcombes and walk through The Dorset Gap, pausing to sign the book marking our passage through this ancient meeting of five paths. Then around the deer-filled valley of Lyscombe Bottom and somehow we will definitely work in a visit to the excellent Brace of Pheasants at Plush and maybe not venture quite so far after yesterday's exertions.
Day 5
Your day off and it is up to you Maybe a wander around Corfe Castle, a lazy day on Bournemouth's wonderful beaches, a visit to the World's premier Tank Museum at Bovington? Maybe even further afield and visit Salisbury Cathedral or Stonehenge—even a day trip to London is not out of the question; we are less than 2 hours away on the train into Waterloo? You could ,of course, go for a day's walking .....!
Day 6
Another highlight! Starting at Studland Church we go up onto the chalk hills of Ballard Down and complete a loop past Old Harry Rocks and back to the Bankes Arms for a small lemonade. {We are now walking over later Cretaceous rocks}. We can then go north along the beach to the Harbour Ferry and the Official end of the SW Coast path—beware, some sunbathers have forgotten to put on their swimming costumes! We complete the return across the heath and past The Agglestone, tradition has it that it was a rock thrown by the Devil from the Isle of Wight at Corfe Castle : he missed!
Day 7
Inland and starting from Dorchester, Dorset's County Town. We go up and onto the Internationally-renowned prehistoric Hill Fort of Maiden Castle and up to Hardy's Monument and past a string of tiny, lost Villages in little valleys back to Dorchester. {Surprisingly the monument is to Nelson's 'Kiss me Hardy' and not the great local author, Thomas}.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
