Itinerary
Day 1
Pick up from the airport and transfer to Montecorto
Day 2
The Via Verde 'Greenway' is an old railway track that is now being re-used for recreational activities. This part of the line was never operational. The ride takes you over several viaducts and through many tunnels. Along the way we pass the Penon de Zaframangon a limestone escarpment which is listed as a National Reserve as it is home to the largest colony of Griffon Vultures in Spain . Along this stretch of the Via Verde there are 5 old railway stations of which 3 have been renovated into cafes where we can stop for refreshments.
Day 3
A scenic lakeside ride to Zahara, a beautiful white village situated on the side of a hill with a Moorish castle keeping guard from above. Refreshments at a café, over looking the lake, before we return to Montecorto.
Day 4
A short ride through an enchanting cork forest to Grazalema, another stunning white village. Grazalema has its own unique climate due to the mountains which surround it on three sides and is located in the centre of the Grazalema National Park . Leaving the village behind we take a 10km descent into the valley below before we return to Montecorto.
Day 5
Starting in the historic town of Ronda we head off towards Benoajan where we pick up tracks which run parrallel to Mr Hendersons railway. We ride along quiet country roads, over beautiful meadows and cross a meanduring stream on several occasions. We stop at the amazing Cueva de Gatos the largest subterranean cave system in Europe before we finish the ride in Benoajan. Once in Benoajan we stop for refreshments at the railway station before catching the train back to Ronda
Day 6
An undulating ride through spectacular scenery. The flat bottom of the Libar valley makes for easy riding yet the mountains on either side give a wild rugged feel to this route. Far away from civilization you are unlikely to meet any other riders and if you stop and listen.. all you can hear is a silence that bestows the serenity of your surroundings.
Day 7
We ride through a beautiful cork tree forest until we reach the Planes of Los Llanos. Once across the Planes we ride along an undulating track for several kilometers before descending into Villaluenga, the highest 'pueblo blanco' in the Cadiz province.
Day 8
Time to pack those bags and head off to the airport for the flight home
