Day 1 - Highlights
*Bucharest city tour – to find out why the Romanian capital was once surnamed “the little Paris”.
*Bucovina’s Monasteries – UNESCO World Heritage sits, Voronet, Moldovita, Sucevita.
*Sighisoara Medieval Citadel one of Europe’s most beautiful and still inhabited fortified cities with a UNESCO World Heritage status.
*The fortified Church of Biertan – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the finest Saxon fortified churches in Transylvania
*Sibiu – the European Capital of Culture in 2007, one of the best preserved medieval cities in Romania
*Bran Castle – also known as Dracula’s Castle, a legendary Transylvanian fortress dating back to 1377.
*Brasov City tour – explore the Medieval Saxon city with its outstanding medieval atmosphere
*Peles Castle – one of the most beautiful royal residences in Europe
Day by day itinerary:
DAY 1 Bucharest - Pitesti
Arrival at the airport Bucharest - Otopeni. We are expected by the Romanian guide and transferred to the capital. A city tour of Bucharest with visit of the Patriarchal Church (residence of the orthodox head of Romania) and of the Palace of the Parliament (second largest building in the world after the Pentagon) brings us closer to the Romanian lifestyle. After that, drive to Pitesti.
| Day 2 - Pitesti - Medias
In the morning we drive to the Monastery Cozia, one of the oldest monasteries of Romania (14th century). After that, drive through the Red Tower Pas, and then, through the Carpathian Mountains into Transylvania. In Sibiu we make a city tour with visit of the large and the little ring, the Bridge of Lies, as well as of the churches in baroque and gothic style. In the afternoon we arrive in Medias and we visit the Margaret Church.
| Day 3 - Sighisoara
In the morning, drive to Sighisoara. Here we visit the Clock Tower, the birthplace of Count Dracula and also the Church on the Hill. After that, drive to Biertan to see the largest church castle of Romania. In the afternoon we have free time in Medias. | Day 4 - Medias - Campulung Moldovenesc
In the morning we make a city tour of Targu Mures. We see the orthodox cathedral (the largest in Romania) and the Palace of Culture. Then drive to Moldavia. We make a short stop in Bistrita to visit the cathedral with the highest tower of Romania. After that we driveover the Tihuta Pas, into the Bucovina. In the afternoon we visit the wood museum of Campulung to make ourselves a picture about the life in this region. | Day 5 - Tour of the Monasteries
In the morning we drive to the monastery Moldovita, where mother Tatiana will explain us the symbols of the exterior wall paintings. After that, drive over the Obcina Mountains, and arrival at the monastery Sucevita. Here we can also admire the exterior wall paintings of the church. In the afternoon we make a stop at the monastery Voronet, the "Sistine Chapel" of Romania. The "Last Supper", that is represented here, attracts every year thousand of visitors. | Day 6 - Campulung Moldovenesc - Predeal
In the morning we drive to the south. Short stop at the monastery Neamt, which has been established by the sovereign Stefan the Great. After that we drive among the Bicaz Lake Reservoir, through the Bicaz Clammy and we arrive at the Red Lake (Lacul Rosu) in the Carpathian Mountains. In the afternoon we drive through the eastern part of Transylvania to Brasov. Afterwards we drive in the mountains to Predeal, the Pearl of the Carpathians. | Day 7 - Surroundings of Carpathian
In the morning we make an excursion to the city Brasov. We will visit the Black Church (largest gothic building of Eastern Europe), the old city hall and the Orthodox Church of the old town. Afterwards we drive to the Bran Castle, which is also known as the Castle Dracula. After getting to know the legend of the feared vampire, we will visit the Castle Peles, which was the summer residence of the Romanian royal family of the Hohenzollern.
| Day 8 - Predeal - Bucharest
In the morning we drive to Bucharest. A visit at the village museum will show us farms from several regions of Romania. After that we have some free time to discover for ourselves the capital's city center. In the afternoon, transfer to the airport, we say good-bye to the Romanian guide and we fly home.
