Itinerary
Day 1
On this private full day tour from Brasov your English-Speaking guide will
take you to see some of the most magnificent castles in Transylvania: Bran
Castle, Rasnov Castle, and the Palace of Peles.
Bran Castle is often referred to as Dracula's castle. Originally built as a
fortress for the Knights of the Teutonic in 1212. It was later re-built in 13 C
by the Saxons to protect the city of Brasov. Some versions refer to Bran Castle
as the base for Vlad Tepes; although this point is heatedly debated among
Dracula fans. One of the most picturesque castles in Romania, sitting on a
hilltop with magnificent views. Contains a collection of antique furniture from
14 - 15 C and an open air ethnographic museum of old village buildings with
exhibits of furniture, household objects and costumes.
The Peasant Fortress at Rasnov was built in stone and brick, was constructed in
several stages from the 14th century to the 17th century. The Fortress has 2
portions; The lower one, in ruins surrounded by the wall. The Tower is the
oldest part of the Fortress. The upper portion, surrounded by 5 m high walls, is
the proper fort. The entrance is made of a massively fortified tower with an
outpost provided with numerous firing outlets and arrow loops and with a
wall-walk for the Fortress defenders.
The Palace of Peles is a masterpiece of German Renaissance architecture. Once
was the Romanian Royalty Summer residence and retreat. The Palace's 160 rooms
are adorned by the finest examples of European art, Murano crystal chandeliers,
German stained-glass windows, walls covered with Cordoba leather, Meissen and
Sevres porcelains, ebony and ivory sculptures. Its medieval collection of swords
and nights armor are simply astonishing.
The most magnificent castles in Transylvania: Bran Castle, Rasnov Castle, and
the Palace of Peles!!!
