ITINERARY
Day 1 - Arrival in airport, meeting with the guide and transfer to Marsala. Through the "Salt Road" coasting along the Natural Reserve of the iStagnone Island we will cast our eyes on the salt pans and the restored wind mills. We can also watch a very rich fauna such as snowy herons that chooses this area as a natural shelter. From this enchanting place we will admire the sunset that here assumes a particular charm. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2 - Breakfast and departure for Selinunte. With an electric shuttle-bus, we will visit Europe's most important archaeological park and one of Sicily's biggest Greek town with its temples and acropolis. You will surely be impressed by the beautiful landscape surrounding Selinunte: uncontaminated beaches and deep blue water. After history, you will live a wine and food experience visiting a famous winery. You will find out the secrets of making a good wine thanks to the help of an expert. You will sample different wines and taste genuine local products.
In the afternoon, we will visit Erice, the best well-preserved medieval village of the island. Walking through its narrow streets, you will discover its numerous churches and the Venere Castle from which you can enjoy a fantastic sight on the salt pans. You will then meet Mrs Maria in her pastry-shop. She will delight you with her almond patries, made according to the recipes of the old convent where she lived during 15 years. The tasting will be accompanied by a glass of Passito or Malvasia wine. Later we will go back to Marsala. Dinner and overnight .
Day 3 - Breakfast. In the morning we will go to San Vito Lo Capo. Possibility for relaxing on its marvellous white sand beach with crystal clear waters whose colour changes from light to dark blue. For lunch we can satisfy our appetite with a dish of cous cous or of Trapani's busiate (a special pasta) and drink a glass of good white wine. After lunch we will head for the Zingaro Natural Reserve where the Mediterranean shrubland is fantastic. The beauty of Scopello's crags and tuna station will take your breath away. Resting in Scopello's baglio (traditional Sicilian farm) you could taste a lemon "granita" (crushed-ice drink) or an ice-cream before going back to Palermo. Dinner in a "trattoria" in the city centre. Overnight.
Day 4 - Breakfast. We will spend the day in Palermo where history is part of daily life: from the historical palaces to the food, from the dialect to the religious processions and the markets. The guided visit of the Arab-Norman and the Baroque Palermo will delight you. The visit will end in the Capo market which reminds us of an Arabic souk for many aspects and you will feel for a while like a real inhabitant of this city. Lunch in a "focacceria" typical snack bar of Palermo. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner in a "trattoria" where we will taste a a wide range of Sicilian dishes. Overnight.
Day 5 - Special day dedicated to nature and traditions. Across the Madonie Park and its villages, you will discover the history and the beauty of these places. Running along the "Cheese Road", you will arrive in a small local dairy where the producer will tell you all about the old tradition of cheese making. You will taste Madonie's famous "provola" and the fresh and still warm "ricotta". You will continue to Ganci, an old medieval village. Lunch in old Gangi with typical local products in a 15th century Benedictine monastery. After lunch, a walk through the monastery park surrounded by pinetree scents and secular trees. We will then go to Petralia Soprana and Petralia Sottana two old villages. Back to Palermo, dinner at leisure. Overnight.
Day 6 - Breakfast. Visit of Monreale and its well-known Cathedral, the best example of the Sicilian Arab-Norman art. Transfer to Carini and visit of the famous castle, where a double murder was committed. The public opinion was really moved by this scandalous crime. The event was told by a short poem, "The bitter case of the baroness of Carini" which created the popular legend of this castle, costructed under Ruggero II between 1075 and 1090. In those rooms, overlooking the homonymous gulf, on 4th December 1563, Laura Lanza and her lover Ludovico Vernagallo were murdered by her husband and her father Don Cesare Lanza... For lunch, tasting of buns filled with ice-cream listening to the charming history of ice-cream. In the afternoon, visit of Mondello, its beach and its villas in Liberty style. Dinner at leisure and overnight.
Day 7 - Breakfast. Walking through the city centre, we will admire churches, monuments, squares and palaces. We will end up in an old palatial residence that hosts a permanent exhibition about Sicilian wines. Tasting of local wines combined with a buffet of tipical food under the guidance of an expert. Afternoon at leisure for shopping or a stroll along Viale Libertà and its beautiful buildings. Gala dinner and overnight.
