Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Kalamata airport, meeting us and your rented 4WD car.
Heading southward through Kalamata city along the coast. Staying for the night in the Viros gorge near the town of Kardamilli.

Day 2

Walk through the Viros gorge and the village of Pedino to a deserted monastery.
Drive up the Taygetos mountains along unpaved roads, stay for the night somewhere in the mountains.

Day 3

Following unpaved roads to the eastside of Taygetos through picturesque villages.
Staying for the night in the mountains.

Day 4

Driving up to the Taygetos refuge, from here we walk up to Profitis Ilias summit at 2407m.
Drive along unpaved roads towards the city of Sparta and Mistras.
Stay for the night in the Mistras region.

Day 5

Visit of medieval Mistras.
Drive through Sparta in easterly direction back into the mountains.
Stay for the night under a huge plane tree with a karst spring in the Parnon mountains.

Day 6

Walk up a trial to a deserted monastery build partially in a cave.
Drive up Mt Parnon to a plateau at 1800m.
We stay here for the night.

Day 7

Walk up Meghali Tourla, highest summit of Mt Parnon.
Drive down to the village of Kastanitsa and to the town of Leonidio.
Stay for the night in a unspoilt bay.

Day 8

At your leisure in this bay.

Day 9

Return to the Taygetos region, where we will stay for the night.

Day 10

Return to Kalamata and the airport.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud

It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:

  • It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
  • If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
  • Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
