Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Athens airport, we will be here waiting for you. Your "home" for the coming 2 weeks is waiting for you! We will guide you out of Athens, heading for our first stop in a small bay in the Corinthian Gulf. Here you can have your first swim, weather permitting. Most part of this day will be on road.

Day 2

Along minor roads we will drive towards Delphi. Visit of the Ossios Loukas monastery, visiting Delphi. Stay for the night in the Parnassos mountains. Partially on and off road.

Day 3

Today it is possible to climb Mt Liakoura 2457m, highest summit of Parnassos. Plants which can be found here are: Viola poetica, Saxifraga marginata, Crocus sieberi, Campanula sp, Convolvulus boissieri.
Partially on and off road.

Day 4

Taking the motorway to the north, from Velestino following the old National Road and minor roads towards Mt Ossa. Staying for the night near the village of Anatoli.

Day 5

Following unpaved roads up in the Ossa mountains. Campsite somewhere in the Ossa mountains, rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 6

Walk up to Mt Palamiotis at 1976m, plants which we can find here are: Androsace villosa, Saxifraga scardica, Astragalus sp, Erodium absinthoides. Nice views of Mt Olympos and the sea. Drive downwards to the coast through extensive forests. Stay for the night close to the sea.

Day 7

Up northwards along the coast to the town of Litochoron. Drive upwards into the National Park of Mt Olympos. Visit of the Aghios Dionysios monastery, here we can find several orchid species. Walk along the Enipeus river down to the Aghios Spilos chapel, here Aquilegia ottonis ssp amaliae can be found. Return to the coast to stay for the night.

Day 8

Circumnavigate Mt Olympos along minor roads to a spot close to the Papa Rema gorge.
Rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 9

Drive up the track into the Olympos, here a lot of plants can be seen: Jankaea heldreichii, Achillea ageratifolia, Fritillaria messanensis, Cephalenthera longifolia, Orchis pauciflora, Orchis simia, Orchis spitzelii, Orchis purpurea, Orchis tridentata, Saxifraga porophyllum ssp grisebachii. Return to the spot of last night.

Day 10

Visit of the Aghia Kori chapel, walk along a stream where Pinguicula hirtiflora ssp crystallina can be found. Visit of the Aghia Triada chapel, drive along unpaved roads in easterly direction towards Mt Pieria. Stay for the night in the Pieria mountains.

Day 11

Return to Mt Olympos, driving up a track to a plateau at 2450m. Along the track many plants will be found, like Campanula oreadum, Potentilla deorum, Veronica thessalica, Gentiana verna, Saxifraga spruneri, Alyssum handelii. Stay for the night at the plateau.

Day 12

Walk up Mytikas summit at 2917m. Plants on our way up: Saxifraga sempervivum, Viola striis-notata, Cerastium theophrastii, Dianthus haematocalyx ssp haematocalyx, Senecio squalidus, Thymus boissieri.
Descending Olympos to stay for the night near a stream.

Day 13

Driving along the coast southward, stay for the night somewhere close to the sea.

Day 14

Return to Athens Airport.
