Itinerary

Day 1

From Plovdiv we will take unforgettable tour to the magnificent Bachkovo Monastery in the heart of Rhodopi Mountains. Feel the spirit of Rhodopi Mountains and enjoy the breathtaking views to the virgin nature. On our road to the monastery we will pass through Asenovgrad and drop in Asen's Fortress.
It is a medieval fortress in the Bulgarian Rhodope Mountains, 2-3 km south of the town of Asenovgrad, on a high rocky ridge on the left bank of the Asenitsa River.
The earliest archaeological findings date from the time of the Thracians, the area of the fortress being also inhabited during the Ancient Roman and Early Byzantine period. The fortress gained importance in the Middle Ages, first mentioned in the statute of the Bachkovo Monastery as Petrich's in the 11th century.
After our tour in the region of the Asen's Fortress we will take our way to Bachkovo Monastery where we will enjoy the traditional Bulgarian cuisine in a restaurant near amazing waterfall. Then we will visit the monastery which is important monument of Christian architecture and one of the largest and oldest Eastern orthodox monasteries in Europe. It is directly subordinated to Holy Synod of Bulgarian Orthodox Church. The monastery is known and appreciated for the unique combination of Byzantine, Georgian and Bulgarian culture, united by the common faith.
Then we will take our way back to Plovdiv.
