Itinerary

Day 1

THE VOYAGE BEGINS… on the butterfly-shaped main island of Guadeloupe, with colonial capital Basse-Terre on the western ‘wing’ and commercial city Pointe-à-Pitre on the eastern, it is surrounded by five smaller islands. This enchanting Caribbean archipelago is packed with natural beauty and French Creole culture.

We board the ship in Pointe-à-Pitre, the cultural centre of Grand-Terre. Pointe-à-Pitre is also the economical capital of Guadeloupe. The city offers the effervescent charm of a big colourful Caribbean city, and welcomes tourists with open arms.
Once all guests have arrived we set sail for an evening cruise to the western side of the Island. It’s time to relax and take in the coast line whilst our native historian tells of the heritage, lifestyle and geography of the region.

Day 2

– We wake in Deshaies, a charming little fisherman’s village, to find the ship curled up in the hollow of a deep cove and surrounded by hillsides. Far from contemporary agitation and crowds, this site is miraculously preserved as if suspended in a dream world. Peaceful and calm, Deshaies is a haven.
We disembark from the ship ready to discover the countless treasures. At the Jacques Cousteau Underwater Reserve, jump in for a dive or keep dry on the glass bottom boat. It’s truly an underwater paradise and a fitting homage to the legend of underwater exploration. For those ready to explore on foot, there’s Guadeloupe’s National Park consisting of some of the island’s most beautiful natural wonders. After the days adventure we head out for a happy hour sail, setting anchor for the night in the quaint bay of Bouillante. The evening ends with a special treat as we enjoy an authentic performance from a local artist.

Day 3

At sunrise we pull anchor, heading for Les Saintes. A string of small islands on a turquoise sea, Les Saintes possesses the envied title of one of the most beautiful bays in the world. Stroll the streets and visit quaint shops that display unique gifts, or visit Fort Napoleon, a photographer’s dream. The flowering cactus gardens surrounding the fort are among the most exotic and best maintained in the Caribbean. Spend the rest of the day in the warm Caribbean air, relaxing on a white sand beach and cooling off with a snorkel. We spend the evening relaxing at anchor in this elegant bay.

Day 4

– After a morning breakfast in the beautiful bay we set sail to the “Nature Island of the Caribbean”. Dominica is rich in natural beauty. It’s small coastal towns and rugged mountains interior remain undisturbed. From sea level to peaks of almost 5,000 feet, there are 12 major waterfalls, six varieties of tropical forest, a river for every day of the year, more shades of green than you thought existed and more sparkling flora than any guide book could catalog. As we make our way along the rugged coastline we’re joined by a naturalist sharing local knowledge on this magical place. We anchor in Roseau, a bustling little city that is a blend of old and new architecture and reflects the French and British possessions of the island. The compact town is a colourful assortment of West Indian colonial houses. There is a chance to explore the island this afternoon by joining one of the Safari excursions or visit the markets and stroll along the harbour side. End your evening on deck enjoying cocktails under the stars while we are entertained by a local musician. This evening is a great opportunity to mingle with other guests and unwind after an adventure-filled day.

Day 5

The next morning we wake in Roseau to start our day of adventure. The options are endless for ½ day, full day and make-your-own excursions. Discover the “Best of Dominica”. This tour highlights rum, tropical rainforests and heritage. For those who like to discover the greenery of the island, explore the wild mountainous nature reserve in the centre of Dominica’s isolated wilderness on an aerial tram tour. Countless waterfalls, brooks and rivers course through these tropical lands and tumble into a deep river gorge that can only be viewed from the tram gondola’s and suspension bridge. For the thrill seekers, tackle the rapids by tube or kayak, take on extreme hikes or mountain bike the rugged cliffs.
After returning from an exciting action filled day, the ship lifts anchor to spend the night in Soufrière Bay. At dinner it’s another chance to discover – a local chef has joined us onboard to create rich cuisine that is truly unique & flavourful, from mouth-watering ocean bounty to exotic fruits and vegetables. During our learning dinner we are entertained with a unique authentic performance.

Day 6

– In the morning we set sail for Portsmouth, a picturesque village located along Prince Rupert’s Bay that offers various sites to discover. For the sea explorers, it’s a chance to kayak or snorkel. For the historians, Dominica is unique for many reasons, but none more so than for its indigenous people.
Dominica can boast as the only remaining tribe of Carib Indians in the Caribbean. A visit to the Carib Territory will allow you to delve back in time. Discover why this race has survived, when all other native Caribbean cultures were destroyed. The Territory has a variety of craft shops producing high-quality straw hats, baskets and other handcrafts. This evening we celebrate with our “Captain’s Dinner”. Guests will have a night to remember full of laughter, taste and traditions.

Day 7

We depart for a morning sail to an enchanting island that has been the best kept secret in the Caribbean. Fortunate visitors to Marie-Galante will discover rolling green hills, turquoise lagoons, picturesque villages and magnificent beaches. We’ll feel like we’ve moved back in time to an era of charming architecture, nineteenth century windmills and colourful markets. This is a place of mystical beauty with lush greenery and fascinating historical sites. The afternoon is spent relaxing on the white sand beaches, exploring by scooter, mountain bike or hike. You can also visit the Bellevue Distillery. It produces the Rhum du Père Labat, considered the best Caribbean white rum.
The ship spends the night at anchor featuring an island style bbq feast befitting of the grand adventure you have just experienced in the last seven days.

Day 8

Next morning disembarking will take place at Pointe-à-Pitre. We’ll leave this day never forgetting the discovery of mysterious coastal islands, an unhurried lifestyle, engaging history, colourful culture and cuisine.
