Itinerary

Day 1

Fly to Lhasa (3650m)
Fly from Kathmandu, Chengdu or Beijing to Lhasa. Upon arrival at Gonggar Airport, meet Tibet Guide and transfer to Lhasa City. Hotel (b/b).

Day 2

Lhasa sightseeing
Guided sightseeing tour of Potala, the winter palace of the Dalai Lama; Drepung, the biggest monastic university of Tibet & Nechung Monastery, temple of the State Oracle of Tibet. Hotel (b/b).

Day 3

Lhasa Sightseeing
Guided sightseeing tour of Jokhang, the central cathedral of Tibet, Barkhor, the bustling Lhasa market encircling the Jokhang Temple, Tibetan Medical Center & Norbulinka Palace. Hotel (b/b).

Day 4

Lhasa - Gyantse (3650m) - 259 Kms.
Drive via Yamdrok, the Turquoise Lake to Gyangtse across Kampa la pass (5050m) & Karo la (5045m)passes. Hotel (b/b).

Day 5

Gyantse - Shigatse (3900 ) - 90 Kms
AM: Visit the amazing Khumbhum Stupa & Phalkor Monastery at Gyantse.
Afterwards embark on a pleasant 3 hrs. drive to Shigatse.
PM: Sight seeing Tour of The Tashilunpo Monastery and the free Tibetan market.

Day 6

Shigatse - Xegar (3900m) - 244 Kms.
Drive to Shegar across Tsoula pass (4500M) & Gyatso la pass (5220M). Enroute visit Sakya Monastery. Hotel (b/b).

Day 7

Xegar - Dza Rongphu (4920m) - 60 Kms.
Drive via Pangla pass (5200 M) to Rongbuk Monastery, world's highest monastery, situated at 5200M, from where there are great views of the North Face of Mr. Everest. Rongbuk Guest House (b/b).

Day 8

Everest Base Camp (5050m) - 8 Kms.
Today we have option to hike up the Rongbuk valley to North Everest Base Camp; an easy 8km hike each way. Local horse carts are available for hire during the summer season for those who do not prefer to hike. PM free to visit monastery and enjoy the sunset over Mt. Everest. Rongbuk Guest House (b/b).

Day 9

Nylam (3700m) or Zangmu (2000m)
Early start for long days drive along the Friendship Highway to border town of Nylam or Zangmu. Enroute enjoy views of Himalayan Mountain range and visit Milarepa's Cave. Hotel (b/b).

Day 10

Nylam/Zhangmu-Kathmandu (125 kms)
Today we descend from the high arid Tibetan plateau into the lush greenery of Nepal. After going through Chinese and Nepal Immigrations drive from Tibet border to Kathmandu. End of Tour.

China visa fees (US$ 100 per person); - Departure Tax (at Kathmandu airport Rs 1700); - lunches & dinners; refreshments, bottled/alcoholic drinks; - any tips (hotels, restaurants, guide, driver, etc.); - photography charges at monasteries/palaces/sites; - Nepal Visa (see Nepal visa information below); - extras cost for up-grading rooms at hotels if/when applicable; - any cost arising from political disturbances, strikes, cancellation of flights, deviation in program, delays due to landslides/ road blockage, or otherwise; - sleeping bag (for Rongphu - can be hired in Kathmandu or Lhasa); - Any services in Kathmandu/Nepal (hotels, transport, etc.).
