Mt Kailash (6714m) is the holiest mountain in Tibet- it is the throne of the gods' The Indus Brahmaputra, Sutlij and Karnali rivers begin their journey to the plains of India and Pakistan from here. This is the ultimate pilgrimage site for Hindus, and Buddhists, who come to circle the holy mountain and bathe in the freezing waters of Lake Mansarovar (4560m). A ritual bath on this lake will deliver a pilgrim to Brahma's paradise and a drink of its water relinquishes the sins of a hundred lifetimes. The 53 Km Kailash circuit is the holiest of all Tibet's pilgrimages and the beacon which draws most travellers to Western Tibet. It is said that a Single Parikarma erases the accumulated sins of a lifetime, while 108 circumbulation will achieve Salvation Or Nirvana.
We begin our journey from Kathmandu. crossing the crest of the Himalaya, follow the Tsang Po (Brahmaputra),river, then cross the lapchuna Kangri Range, enjoying stunning views of the northem slopes of the Great Himalayan Range past several lakes and on to Mt Kailash, Once here we will trek around Mt Kailash, upto grandeur of the scenery is unbelievable.Be prepared to travel on rough roads for long distances, though scenery of magnificent isolation (bar the pilgrims and Yak herders!), unbelievable mountain views.
