When describing Tibet, words that come to mind are; breathtaking scenery, vibrating spiritual awareness, spectacularly awesome sights, lonely and big spaces which are sometimes inhospitable and serenely cheerful, bubbly people.

Begin your journey at Dwarika’s five star hotel in Kathmandu, a living museum with all the mod cons and trappings, your time with us finishes here as well. There is a flight to or from Lhasa included with this trip.

Highlights are:
• an Everest mountain flight and Kathmandu city tour
• the delightful Last Resort, tucked away very close to the Tibetan border
• Everest Base Camp; this awesome mountain rarely fails to bring out ones emotions
• the astonishingly symmetrical Mount Kailash; one of the worlds most sacred Buddhists sites
• monasteries, stupas and abandoned forts at Shigatse and Gyantse
• Lhasa city tour with pilgrims, monasteries, the Potala and Summer Palace and the old town
• the Tibetan people

Tibet is a place where sometimes it seems time forgot! Wandering nomads with their yaks, sheep and dogs and then there are the pilgrims, sometimes prostrating for years at a time; both the nomads and pilgrims still today, more or less, living the same way they have been for centuries. We travel through this pristine and spiritual environment amongst these people.

Where accommodation isn’t available or adequate, we have a second crew in another vehicle setting up bush camps for us in advance and preparing all meals.

On this particular trip, we take our time and acclimatise slowly. We do it properly! On board BOA’s vehicles we constantly monitor and record all passengers oxygen saturation levels with pulse oxymeters and if oxygen is required, we carry oxygen and the highly regarded ‘Top Out’ oxygen masks now used by most Everest climbers.

For the best part of our time in Tibet, we are at an altitude of at least 4000m; sometimes going over passes which exceed 5000m. Most people feel the affects of altitude on this trip, but because we manage it very carefully, most won’t feel much more than a headache or some kind of lethargy at the early stages of the trip. BOA’s mountaineering experience kicks in here… we know how to manage altitude properly and carefully.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud

It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:

  • It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
  • If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
  • Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
