Between Kathmandu and Pokhara you'll find the enchanting town of Bandipur. Step back in time and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and charm of the ancient landscape and surrounding villages.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in BandipurThis module begins in Bandipur, so, if you're coming from Kathmandu or Pokhara you'll leave early in order to arrive in the early afternoon. We can arrange a bus or car transfer for you - just ask one of our travel specialists. You'll immediately feel like you've stepped into a time machine - the streets are narrow and cobbled and lined on both sides with the traditional wooden Newari houses. Curious faces will peek out of windows and doors as you pass through the quaint old streets. You'll stay at a welcoming mountain hotel for the next 2 nights. The hotel as a colonial atmosphere, a spectacular view and great food to boot. It's surrounded by a wonderfully aromatic pine forest and hidden among the trees you'll find a sparkling pool (although it is sometimes empty, so you'll have to keep your fingers crossed). When you've satisfied your appetite with a tasty lunch you'll have time to explore your surroundings. The centre of Bandipur is a scenic 15-minute walk from your hotel and on the way you will see farmers working the land with oxen and old women shuffling by with huge baskets on their back. Looking around, it will be hard to imagine that Bandipur was once an important trading town on the route from India to Tibet. The Bindabasini Mandir (temple) is well worth a visit. It is the home of Bandipur's patron goddess Durga and decorated with intricate woodwork carvings. After this, you'll walk on through dusty streets to the Thani Mai Temple, perched on a hilltop to the west of the city with a fantastic view over the mountains and the town itself. In the evening, you can head for one of the small local restaurants in the centre, where you'll always be served a very warm welcome.
Day 2
Bandipur - Walk to RamkotThis morning you'll have breakfast al fresco and from the balcony of your hotel, you can look out across the snowy peaks of the Annapurna range. As the morning sun climbs higher, the mist will slowly rise from the mountains. After breakfast, you'll be picked up by an english-speaking guide for your walk to the village of Ramkot. As soon as you leave Bandipur, the hills become greener and more rugged with some steep cliffs, rocks and beautiful terraces. Excited children will follow you shouting 'Namaste'. You'll arrive in Ramkot a couple of hours later. Walking in the fresh mountain air, you'll build up an appetite, so it's time to find a good spot for a picnic. As the guide lays out the picnic spread, you can lie back in the grass and relax for a bit. Crisp air, birds chirping around you - this is mountain life at its very best. After lunch, you'll wander back to Bandipur. You'll arrive at the end of the afternoon, leaving you plenty of time to explore the town, but you may just want to chill out on your balcony with a good book, enjoy the peace and quiet and savour the view...
Day 3
Bandipur - End of moduleAfter breakfast the module ends, and you will be free travel on to Pokhara, perhaps begin our Trekking with a treat, head in the other direction to Kings and gods of the valley, or set off on a wildife adventure with Chitwan elephants and rhinos.
