Itinerary

Day 1

Board the Trans-Mongolian train departing for Dornogobi Province (The Eastern Gobi) at 09:30 am. Full day enjoy the natural scenery featuring low mountains, steppes and semi-deserts on the way. At 08.20 pm, arrive in Sainshand, the center of Dornogobi Province. You are transferred to your tourist camp for overnight in an authentic Mongolian ger, located 18 km southeast of Sainshand.

Day 2

Set off for the Hamriin Hiid Monastery. You will definitely be surprised to discover modest Buddhist red-sect temples founded by Danzanravjaa the Terrible Noble Saint of the Gobi as well as the caves of meditation. Once the seabed roughly 80 million years ago, this unexplored area of the Gobi also offers visitors sand dunes and fossil dinosaur skeletons and trees. A visit to a hospitable nomadic family and a lively camel race are an experience not to be missed.

Day 3

After lunch at the camp, head for Sainshand to visit a small museum that was established in commemoration of Danzanravjaa, the Terrible Noble Saint of the Gobi V. The collection of more than 1,500 items, only a few left from the 1930s, had been secretly kept by the seventh descendant of the Danzanravjaa's Tahilch, a performer of ceremonies of sacrifices, up until 1991, when it was given to the museum. Day 4

Arrive in Ulan Bator at 08.35 am. Transfer to hotel where you are staying.

Hamriin Hiid Monastery

The Hamriin Hiid Monastery was established in the 1820s by famous 19th century Mongolian educator and literary figure Danzanravjaa. The monastery was an important center of the Buddhist Red Sect and seat of the Terrible Noble Saint of the Gobi.

An outspoken critic of the society, in which he lived, Danzanravjaa fought against the rigid class and gender distinctions of his day. He devoted great efforts to the cause of public education, which he promoted at Hamriin Hiid Monastery through the establishment of an inclusive public school, theater, museum and library.

Shambala Land of the Hamriin Hiid Monastery

Danzanravjaa the Terrible Noble Saint of the Gobi V let all his disciples gather in the midst of many colored hills nearby the Hamriin Hiid Monastery to make proportional drawings of the Shambala Land. They created a meditation practice land with wooden stupas, a door and a heap of stones. At that place, His Holiness uttered prayers to meet with his all disciples in the Holy Shambala Land. That's why this place is known as the Shambala Land and became one of the holiest places for prostration and circumambulation nowadays.
