The temple, situated high aloft a hill called Neelachal Parbat or Kamagiri in the city of Guwahati is one of its several religious landmarks, which speaks volumes about the rich historical treasure over which the state of Assam is seated. The Kamakhya Temple had been built in reverence to Goddess Kamakhya or Sati, who was one of the numerous incarnations of Goddess Durga or Goddess Shakti.
Shankardev Kalakshetra: a place where Assamese history and culture is depicted in a sprawling open enclosure

Day 4
KAZIRANGA- NAMERI
Early Morning One Elephant safari in central range.

Tezpur: The name Tezpur is derived from the Sanskrit words 'Teza' (meaning blood) and 'Pura' (meaning town or city). Legend has it that the original name of this place was 'Sonitpur' ("sonit" in sanskrit also means blood!) but when the battle between Krishna's army and Banasura's army fought for the rescue of Anirudha (who was the grandson of Lord Krishna, according to legend )] there was so much bloodshed that the whole place was stained in red. This led to the name of the place becoming Tezpur.
In Tezpur visit:
Agnigarh is the site of the fortress which was built by Banasura to keep his daughter Usha in isolation. The name itself is derived from the words 'Agni' (meaning fire) and 'garh' (meaning fortress or wall) in Sanskrit. Present day Agnigarh is a hill on the banks of the Brahmaputra which is one of the big tourist attractions in Tezpur. There is a circular stairway leading up to the crest of the hill where there are now sculptures depicting Usha's abduction of Aniruddha, the son of Krishna and the ensuing battle by Krishna to free them. There is also a viewing platform with the scenery around the river banks as well as the town centre and the Kolia Bhomora Setu bridge across the Brahmaputra.
Da Parbatia is an ancient architectural site of a Hindu temple in the 4th Century AD. There is a door well which has survived the exposure to the natural elements for all these centuries. It is a protected site under the auspices of the Archaeological Survey of India.
The Bhairabi Temple is located on the outskirts Tezpur in Assam, India.
The Goddess Durga is worshipped here. The backdrop of the temple is a view looking towards the Kolia Bhomora Setu across the Brahmaputra River. The temple site is also locally known as Maithan and Bhairabi Devalaya. Legend has it that Usha (daughter of mighty Asura King Banasura) regularly came here for the worshipping of the Goddess.About a couple of kilometres away lie the Bamuni Hills where one can view the ruins of the palace that stood many centuries ago. The art work on stone carvings that were used within the structure are from the 9th century.

Nameri National Park is one of the two rain forest we have in north East. Now it comes under the Project Tiger operated by Govt. of India.
