Itinerary
Day 1
Chennai
Around Midnight arrival in Chennai. The cosmopolitan city of Chennai (formerly known as Chennai) is the main gateway for travellers to India. Upon arrival, you will be met by an Indo Vacations representative and transferred to the hotel.
Day 2
Chennai Excursion: Mahabalipuram, Kanchipuram
Today we have full day excursion tour to Mahabalipuram and Kanchipuram. In Mahabalipuram we visit some of the 14 cave temples and 9 monolithic rathas (temple chariots). Pallavamala was the ruler who made the port famous in the 7th century and was largely responsible for building the temples. After the visit of Mahabalipuram we visit the Kanchipuram. Kanchpuram is known for the sarees. Overnight in Chennai. Full day tour of Mahabalipuram & Kanchipuram. Overnight in Chennai.
Day 3
Chennai - Madurai (by train)
After having breakfast we start the sightseeing of Chennai. We visit the Fort St. George near the harbour area of Chennai which was built by the British in the 17th century and also the St. Mary's church which was the first English church in India. In the evening transfer to railway station for overnight train journey to Madurai. Madurai, situated on the banks of river Vaigai is also referred as the Athens of the East. Madurai has the most outstanding examples of Vijayanagar temple architecture.
Day 4
Madurai
In the morning arrive in Madurai and transfer to the hotel. Today we visit Tirumalai Nayaka Palace which was built in the 1636 and represent the Indo-Mughal style. After visiting the palace we visit the Gandhi Museum. In Gandhi Museum we get the information about the life of Gandhi and freedom movement during the presence of British in India. After visiting the Museum we visit the Minakshi Temple, temple belonging to the 16th and 17th century. This temple is the most outstanding example of the Vijayanagar temple architecture. We will spend enough time in Minakshi Temple and afterwards have a walk through the bazaars of this 2500 years old town.
Day 5
Madurai - Periyar
In the afternoon we drive to Periyar. Periyar National Park is one of the India's largest wildlife sanctuary. This sanctuary has a large variety of flora and fauna and is the ultimate place of many endangered species and a rich tribal culture. This sanctuary is spread over an area of 780 square kms, surrounded by an artificial lake over an area of 25 square kms. In 1978, this sanctuary was declared as Periyar Tiger Reserve, under the Project Tiger Scheme.
Day 6
Periyar - Trivandrum
In the morning after breakfast, drive to Trivandrum. Trivandrum formerly known as Thiruvananthapuram is gateway to one of the most beautiful Indian states, Kerala. It is one of the most beautiful cities of India. On arrival, you will be transferred to hotel. Overnight in Trivandrum.
Day 7
Trivandrum
In the morning proceed for a sightseeing of Trivandrum. We will visit Padmanabha Swamy Temple. This temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu who is depicted reclining on Sri Anantha, the hooded snake from which the city derives its name. Exquisite stone carvings and pavilions are worth admiring. We will also visit the Vettukad Church. This church is also known as The 'Madre De Deus' Church and attracts thousands of devotees from all religions. Today we will visit Varkala Beach. Varkala beach is a seaside resort, as well as an important Hindu centre of pilgrimage. High cliffs with rich mineral springs rise majestically from the coastline.
Day 8
Trivandrum - Cochin
In the morning drive to Cochin. Cochin is the most interesting town in South India at Malabar Coast and is also known as Venice of South. In Cochin we visit St. Francis church, the oldest European church in India in which the grave of famous sailor Vasco da Gama can be visited. After the visit of St. Francis Church we have a walk through the Jewish area of Mattancherry.
Day 9
Cochin - Bangalore (by train)
We have whole day today at leisure so that we can explore Cochin on our own and visit these islands and churches. In the evening we visit a Kathakali dance school. Kathakali dances come from Kerala and in its traditional form relate stories from the Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. Later transfer to the railway station for the overnight train to Bangalore.
Day 10
Bangalore
In the morning arrive in Bangalore and transfer to the hotel. Bangalore is the capital city of the Indian state Karnataka. This former "Garden city" Bangalore is known today as "computer city" of India. Today we will visit the Bull temple, which is built in the Dravidian style of architecture. This temple has a huge Nandi Bull carved out of a single grey granite and famous Gowda Fort, which was built by Tipu Sultan. We will also visit the Vidhan Sabha and downtown commercial centre. This Vidhana Sabha, which is built after independence, stands out by its imposing architecture in the neo Dravidian style.
Day 11
Bangalore - Mysore
In the morning drive to Mysore. In the evening arrive in Mysore.
Day 12
Mysore
Today we visit the most impressive and one of the largest city palaces in India. The City Palace of Mysore "Ambar Vilas" is built in the Indo-Saracenic style. Mysore is world famous for Silk and Sandalwood. Mysore is also a centre of producing saris which is a common dress of woman in India. In Mysore we drive to Chamundi Hill to see a giant Nandi (buffalo god) and enjoy the view of the surroundings form the hilltop.
Day 13
Mysore - Chennai (by train)
The day at leisure. In the evening transfer to the railway station to catch the train for Chennai.
Day 14
Chennai
In the morning arrive in Chennai and transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day at leisure.
Day 15
Chennai (Departure)
Transfer to airport for onward destination.
