Gobi Desert
The Mongolian Gobi is a vast zone of desert and desert steppe covering almost 30% of the Mongolian territory. The Gobi is often imagined as a lifeless desert, similar to African deserts. In reality, most part of the Gobi is a land of steppes and many camel breeders inhabit this zone as rich in wildlife and vegetation. The Mongolians say that there are 33 different Gobi from which sandy desert occupies 3% of the total area. Climate is extreme with +40¢ªC in summer and -40¢ªC in winter and very few precipitations. Yol Valley. The Yol Valley is rich in Golden Eagle as its name suggests. The steep canyon shelters glaciers that remain frozen even in the hottest summer days. At the entrance of the valley, travelers can visit a small museum of local fauna and flora. Hongoriin Els Sand Dunes. The famous ¡°singing¡± sand dunes, Hongoriin Els stretch for more than 180 km (112 miles) with majestic heights of 15-30 m. There is a spectacular oasis nearby Hongoriin Els.
