ITINERARY
Day 1 - Depart West Coast today aboard a spacious jet for your transpacific journey
Day 2 - Day 2 August 03, 2008 – Shanghai As the largest and most prosperous city in the nation, Shanghai is the economic, financial and cultural center of China, while Beijing is the political heart. Shanghai is a modern and fast paced city, rich in history and culture and with a wealth of areas and sites just waiting to be explored. One of the nicest aspects of Shanghai is that the crowds here are much more manageable than in a city like Beijing. This is largely because there are no great ancient sites which people flock to. Upon arrival you are welcomed by your YTB/Spring Tour English Speaking tour guide and transferred to your luxury hotel. Day 3 - Day 3 August 04, 2008 - Shanghai Shanghai is a city to be walked, wandered, explored and discovered. Today you will visit the Cheng Huang Miao (Temple to the Town Gods) The temple, or Cheng Huang Miao, is a touristy but impressive warren of lanes and stalls. Then visit the famous Nanjing Road, known as the best shopping street in China. Flanked on both sides by famed with department stores, specialty shops, exotic restaurants, theaters and cinemas lining up the street. Everyday many visitors walking throng it. Nearby is the People’s Square where it is a spectacular space in the heart of the city. Formerly the city's race-course, a sports arena and a gamblers paradise, the area west of Nanjing Lu was converted after the war to become the People's Square. You will also visit a silk factory and the last place to visit is the Bund Area, a famous waterfront and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years. Whether it is in the daytime or at night, the views along the river are the same beautiful. The great modern skyscrapers and the characteristic buildings in different architectural styles are the best records of the development of the city and the Huangpu River, the birthplace of Shanghai, is the faithful eyewitness. The west side of the Bund is the most famous and attractive sight with 52 various buildings of different architectural styles including Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classicism and the Renaissance. Day 4 - Day 4 August 05, 2008 – Shanghai - Hangzhou Today you will drive to Hangzhou. There's a Chinese saying that goes "up there is heaven, down here is Suzhou and Hangzhou.” The first Westerner to visit Hangzhou, Marco Polo, marveled at its beauty. At the end of the 13th century, he described Hangzhou as "the City of Heaven, the most beautiful and magnificent in the world." The West Lake is undoubtedly the most renowned feature of Hangzhou, noted for the scenic beauty that blends naturally with many famous historical and cultural sites. In this scenic area, there are many places to visit and you will visit the very famous Buddhism temple where you will find it in a long, narrow valley between Fei Lai Feng (Peak flown from Afar) and North Peak to the northwest of the West Lake. The temple is without doubt a premier showpiece in the West Lake environs and is notable also as one of the ten most famous Buddhist temples of China. Day 5 - The city excursion begins to visit the West Lake, and one of the most important parts of traveling to Hangzhou is tasting the famous green tea Longjing Tea at Meiwu. Longjing tea is a famous variety of green tea from Hangzhou, where it is produced mostly by hand and has been renowned for its high quality, earning the China Famous Tea title. Longjing is divided into seven grades: Superior, Special, and then 1 down to 5. Like most other Chinese green tea, Longjing tea leaves are pan fried to stop the fermentation process. Day 6 - After breakfast, drive to Nanjing. Nanjing, known as the Capital City of Six or Ten Dynasties in China's history, it has a brilliant cultural heritage. The city excursion will be the Confucius Temple, constructed in the year of 1034 in the Song Dynasty. It was a place to worship and consecrate Confucius, the great philosopher and educator of ancient China; the next will be Qin Huai River, renowned as a place which nurtured beauties and romance. Today, it is a place for people to recall the old splendor of this historical city. A jade factory will be arranged to visit today in Nanjing. Day 7 - After breakfast, drive to visit Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum, the father of the Republic of China, located in the Zhong Mountain Scenic Area in the east suburb of Nanjing City. It is considered as the Holy land of Chinese people both home and abroad. In the afternoon, drive back to Shanghai and continue fly to Beijing. Day 8 - Snaking its way through thousands of miles across Northern China, the Great Wall took several dynasties to complete and is the subject of the beginning of your tour this day.
