Itinerary

Day 1

Day 1
After breakfast head to the southwest from Kampala. The drive takes you through the savannah grasslands and herds of Ankole cattle, which have heavy curved horns. Proceed to the Kigezi highlands normally referred to as the "Switzerland of Africa", with terraced hills and winding roads plus the mountain scenery to the Bwindi Impenetrable forest. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Rest camp.

Day 2

Day 2:
Prepare very early in the morning for an entry into the gorilla sanctuary, which is best known for fascinating gorillas. The rain forest has a steep forested landscape and is incredibly dense, with numerous crisscrossed animal trails making it accessible for tourists. Expect to see mammals like the endangered Mt. Gorilla, elephant, black fronted duiker, rare golden monkey, buffalo, bushbuck, leopard, giant forest hog and extra. The time taken varies with the primates� movement. It is very exciting and awesome to spend time and take photographs as these primates interact. Dinner and overnight stay at Volcano Tented Camp

Day 3:
Drive back to Kampala with a stop over in Mbarara for lunch

Apart from gorilla tracking. There are a number of other hikes and trails within the park. As you travel along, accompanied by an experienced UWA guide, you will learn about the animals, birds, butterflies, trees and plants in the forest. This is the major tourist activity in Bwindi with four-gorilla groups currently available daily for tourists. The groups are;
Mubare group which was opened to the tourist in 1993,
Habinyanja group opened in July 1998
Rushegura group opened in July 2002 while
Nkuringua group was opened in April 2004

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud

It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:

  • It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
  • If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
  • Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
