Itinerary

Day 1

KAMPALA : FORT PORTAL
After breakfast we will depart Kampala and head west to Fort Portal. Driving through the verdant countryside we will pass traditional homesteads and farms. Fort Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon and is famous for its tea plantations. Dinner and overnight at Rwenzori View Guesthouse, excellent accommodation with view of the mountains of the moon.

Day 2

KIBALE NATIONAL PARK
Early in the morning we visit Kibale Forest National Park, reputable of having the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East-Africa. Enjoy a guided nature walk in the tropical rain forest in search of the wild chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and many others. After lunch we will take on the Bigodi Swamp Walk, which is a community based program for women that introduce clients to local people. A variety of bird species, primates and butterflies can be seen here. Dinner and overnight at Rwenzori View Guesthouse.

Day 3

FORT PORTAL : QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
We transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park passing through the crater lakes region with some stunning views. Lunch stop at Kasese and continue to Queen Elizabeth, entering with an evening game drive before you check in at the accommodation in the middle of the park. Dinner and overnight at the Institute of Ecology Hostel.

Day 4

QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
The day begins early as we take on a morning game drive and head for the mating ground of the Uganda Kobs. We search for the lions, elephants, buffaloes and other wild animals in their natural habitat before returning for lunch. In the afternoon we take on a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural channel between Lake Edward and Lake George. Thanks to the abundant bird life that is sighted, and the elephants, buffaloes and hundreds of hippos that are cooling off at the shores, this cruise will definitely be one of the highlights of your safari. Dinner and overnight at the Institute of Ecology.

Day 5

QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK : LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast you can visit the Maramagambo Forest for a walk through the tropical forest, known for the Blue Lake and the Bat and Hunters Cave. You will get the chance to have a close look at the bats and maybe even the rock python and forest cobras that feed on the bats. The same walk will provide you with views of primates, different bird species and trees.
An alternative for the forest walk is a hike in the Kyambura Wildlife Reserve (not included). Driving through a grassland area, all of a sudden we come across an amazing gorge of one hundred meters deep, covered with tropical rain forest. You will hike into the gorge of the Kyambura River in search of the wild chimpanzees. It is a beautiful walk through river valley, home to many birds and butterfly species.
After one of these activities we will leave Queen Elizabeth National Park and head towards Lake Mburo National Park. As we enter the park we will make an evening game drive which enables us to spot impalas, topis, warthogs, zebras and buffaloes. Dinner and overnight at Rwonyo Camp.

Day 6

LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK : KAMPALA
Early start of the day as we go for a nature walk guided by a ranger. Lake Mburo is the only national park where you can experience a safari on foot. Return for breakfast and then departure towards the capital city. On our way we will pass Mpigi, a village famous for the Royal Drum Makers. And you can not miss a stop at the Ugandan Equator where you can take pictures and shop for a souvenir. Arrival in Kampala in the afternoon.
