Itinerary
Day 1
Upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, our representative will meet you for your hotel transfer. There will be a tour briefing over a welcome dinner. Spend the night at the Shangri-la Hotel*** (or similar) Accra
Day 2
Start the day with a city tour including a drive through the Independence square, a visit to the Dubois Centre for Pan Africanism, the Arts Centre for National Culture, the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and the National Museum. After lunch at a Ghanaian restaurant, we set off for the Central Region. Spend the night at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort *** (or similar) Elmina
Day 3
Experience a walk across the canopy walk way at the Kakum National Park, which comprises Of undisturbed virgin rainforest to experience a walking tour on the longest and highest canopy walkway in West Africa. Also visit the crafts shop at the park. Make a brief stopover at the Hans Botel, a resort built on stilts and habitat to a host of animals like crocodiles, monkeys, various species of birds, etc. Spend the night at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort *** (or similar) Elmina
Day 4
Start the day with a visit to the Cape Coast Castle, one of the best-preserved castles in Ghana and also declared as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Explore the grounds of this infamous castle with its slave dungeons. This castle also houses the West African Historical Museum established by the Smithsonian Institute in collaboration with the Ghanaian Government in 1994. Also visit the Elmina Castle, another infamous castle and slave dungeon built by the Portuguese in 1482. This castle was the first European structure built in Sub-Saharan Africa. Continue to the Asafo houses that were used as a place for warriors to prepare mentally and spiritually before going to war. Spend the night at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort *** (or similar) Elmina
Day 5
After breakfast, check out of your hotel for a drive through a former slave route to Assin Manso. This was the final transit point for the Enslaved Africans before arriving at the dungeons and the final resting place for two ancestors whose mortal remains were returned from the USA and Jamaica and re-interred. Enshrine your place in history by signing the Returnees Memorial Wall the former Slave River and slave market. Pay “Tribute to the Returnees”. Continue to Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Empire. Spend the night at the Sir Max Hotel*** (or similar) Kumasi
Day 6
Visit the Bobiri forest and Butterfly reserve, with a wide collection of birdlife. Continue trip to the craft village of Bonwire (Kente) also to interact with locals to learn about the art and history of the craft. Continue from there to Ntonso, a village famous for adinkra design. Learn the process of Adinkra printing from a Master and also stamp chosen motives on t-shirts. Also visit the woodcarvers of Ahwiaa. Also visit the famous shrine of Nana Abbas. Spend the night at the Sir Max Hotel*** (or similar) Kumasi
Day 7
After breakfast, tour the city of Kumasi, seat of the Ashanti Empire to explore the legends of the famous Ashantis. You will Visit Manhyia Palace Museum, to obtain firsthand information on the legacies of the Ashanti Kingdom. A regal history that dates back to 1700 is told with relics and artifacts. Enjoy a drive through the city with monuments dedicated to the memory of the great Ashanti people. Also visit the National Cultural Center which features the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and various studios of the brass makers, potters and batik makers. Also visit the world famous Black and White Power Shrine of the master priest Nana Abbas. Spend the night at the Sir Max Hotel*** (or similar) Kumasi
Day 8
Visit the Kejetia market, the largest open air market in West Africa. Also visit the Kumasi Fort and Military Museum, which houses equipments used in the British-Asante war of 1900, World War II and Ghana's military history. Return to Accra after lunch. Day 9
Set off from Accra to the Aburi Botanical Gardens, which offers a rich collection of tropical flora. Not far from the gardens are craftsmen who use wood and leather to create art unique to
Ghana. Continue to the Tetteh Quarshie farm in Mampong. This experimental farm from 1878 was the main force behind Ghana becoming the number producer of Cocoa from 1910 to 1980. Also visit the Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine before descending the mountains into Akosombo. Spend the night at the Volta Hotel*** in Akosombo
Day 10
Set off for the Volta region to the beautiful village of Torgorme located on the lower course of the splendid Volta River. You will have the opportunity to pay a courtesy call on the aramount chief and elders, and also participate in a naming ceremony, where you will be given African names amidst traditional drumming and dancing. Other activities include a demonstration on pottery making, kente weaving and fishing which is the main occupation of the people in Torgorme. Return to Accra in the afternoon Spend the night at the Ramada Hotel *** (or similar) Accra
Day 11
Free morning for optional visits the African Market, The Artistes Alliance Gallery, the Arts
Centre for National Culture, the Aid to Artisans of Ghana (ATAG), Wild Gecko handicrafts shop, Osu Oxford Street, etc. Check into the airport for a late night departure. Spend the night at the Ramada Hotel *** (or similar) Accra
Day 12
Spend the morning free before departure. No overnight stay
