Located a short 22 mile drive from Bend on the Cascade Lakes Highway is Mt Bachelor which offers some of the best skiing in the northwest with trails that suit all skill levels from beginner to expert.

Mt Bachelor is also the spot where the US Ski team have been training for the past 25 years.

Mt Bachelor is infact a former valcanic cone in the Cascade Mountain Range and is surrounded by pine forests.

The mountain has a large skiable area of 3686 acres with a 3365 ft vertical drop and 70 runs. Mt Bachelor also prides itself on the challenging gladed skiing tht is available and hosts several major snowboarding events throughout the year.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
Nearby Attractions: The town of Bend is bordered by mountainous pine forests on the west and high desert on the east and is a haven for outdoor recreational activities. There is rafting, canoeing and kayaking on the Descutes River, hiking, mountain biking and snowmobiling in the Deschutes National Forest and stargazing at the Pine Mountain Observatory located about 3 miles from town.

There are about 20 top rated golf courses in the Bend area, the Lava River Cave and Lava Cast Forest, the High Desert Museum and a number of shops, galleries and restaurants in town.
Aprés-Ski: Many great restaurants are located at the base of Mt Bachelor and in Bend. Village Cafe in Bend serves the best breakfast burritos, pizza's, chili cheese fries and baked goods.

For a taste of Italy try Scapolo's on the first floor of the mountain lodge which offers gourmet pizza, hot soups, awesome views and a bright festive atmosphere.

For after slope drinks try Pine Marten Bar and the Bend Brewing Company. Bend also has thetres, cinemas and live music venues.
