This charming and unspoilt Alpine village is one of the most popular skiing destinations with people from around the world. The snow cover is excellent, but the skiing available is not that extensive.

Most of the runs are best suited for beginners and intermediates, although you can go to Gstaad and four other domains unfer the Gstaad Superski pass. The system is well organised with busses and trains running at regular intervals. The Apre Ski scen is a little mellow, but there are many restaurants and bars, as well as a few nightclubs.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
Nearby Attractions: There are a number of non skiing activities on offer in Chateau d'Oex for those who need a break from the slopes. For the cultural buffs there is the Musee du Vieux Pays-d'Enhaut; the Chalet ge l'Etambeau; and the Museum of Minerals and Fossils.

There are also a couple of art galleries in town, the Galerie Paltenghi and the Galerie Le Chalet. One of the most popular things to do is to go on a hot air balloon trip, taking in the breathtaking views from up above.
Aprés-Ski: There are many restaurants and bars, but the Apres Ski scene is still rather relaxed. There is a sports centre for those who feel like working out or relaxing in the sauna. The pick of the bars in town are Pub le Castel; Irish Tavern; and Bar Le Richmont.

If you're looking to party check out Discotheque La Bamba, which is rocking most nights of the weekend, and especially weekends. There are also a number of activities and playgrounds to keep the children entertained.

Au Montagnard - by C Gartside from United Kingdom - 2006-10-27
Excellent restaurant with open grill fire to cook meats in the restaurant. Recommend the Grilled Rack of Lamb

Au-Montagnard - by Eric from Switzerland - 2007-07-22
This restaraunt in downtown Chateau-d'oex has the best food in all of Switzerland. Try either the Shrimp or the Gnochi with truffle sauce - either dish will blow you away.

La Poste Restaurant - by Emma from United Kingdom - 2008-07-17
La Poste - Great restaurant next to cable car station. Great set meals at lunch times and excellent food in the evening too. Well worth a visit and very child friendly.
