In Val Gardena there are 175 km of slopes and more than 98 km of well-prepared cross-country ski runs in all degrees of difficulty. The Vallunga in Selva Gardena, the Monte Pana in S. Cristina and the Alpe di Siusi offer an unique, fantastic panorama, and can be described as the eldorado for cross-country skiers. It also sports 82 uphill transportation devices.

For non-skiers, the Val Gardena shines as a destination for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice climbing, and exploring the artistic treasures of northern Italy. Well-maintained hiking paths lead to meadows, forests and the broad width of the high alpine areas. Charming tours from hut to hut and up into the rocky mountain world promise a great panorama.

Aprés-Ski: There are several apres options on the mountains in the Val Gardena region. In San Cassiano there is the mountain hut Club Moritzino. Known for fish specialties at 6,000 feet during the day. The club also features a sizeable dance floor. There are 10 such nighttime establishments on the mountains of Val Gardena, and skiers looking for a hopping apres-ski scene should base their adventures in Selva.
Numerous restaurants representing different nationalities are on offer, as are outlets for Ladin food, the region’s traditional ethnic cuisine. Ladin specialties include simple hearty dishes such as crafuncins ravioli, jufa polenta, and buckwheat pancakes and dumplings. In Ortisei, the Stua Catores offers hearty Ladin meals. Prices here are surprisingly reasonable, and the food options are indicative of the region’s ethnicity. For a special evening out you can dine in a historic castle, built in 1537.
Another unforgettable dining experience is to be found at the Romantic Hotel La Perla in Corvara. Those who visit should not miss the chance to visit the famous Sassiacaia Wine Cellar, an experience that is so unique that it defies description.
Cafes and pastry shops are guaranteed fixtures in the villages of the Val Gardena. Besides the traditional cappuccino, these cafe bars serve up a wide range of coffee drinks, a small selection of pastries, beer, sandwiches, and sodas. Most feature a selection of German and Austrian pastries as well.
Musical events are also popular here, particularly the Val Gardena Music Festival and the Val Gardena Concert Festival of the Jeuni de Mujiga each winter. Spring brings the end of the ski season and the Snow Countdown festival at the end of March. Summer ushers in a weekly program of concerts, films, and traditional village festivals.
