Vars is part of Domaine de la Foret Blanche in the southern part of the French Alps. The resort is split between 4 villages and visitors are mostly French and Vars does not get too crowded even at the height of the season.
The range of skiing is huge on the 170km of piste and though the lower slopes are mainly for starters and intermediates, the more advanced skier can advance up the mountain for more suitable challenges. Snow cover can be a problem here towards the end of the season. There is a snow board park and other snow sports including Skidoos and an ice rink is in the village.
The village shops are fairly run of the mill and don't look for a wild night life, but brush up on your French as you'll need it here.
So for great skiing without the crowds this resort is perfect. |
