Popular Travel Destinations

Samoens is a charming traditional resort in the Grand Massif Alpine area.

The resort is always popular with the French families for the good facilities for children and scenic gentle slopes. That is not to say that the resort is just for the beginner, as there are enough slopes for all grades.

The low altitude of the resort (720m) does not always bring good snow, but just take the Red Devil gondola upwards and you are soon in bright white areas.

Snowboarders have their own park here and the resort offers stunning walking trails, gym, ice rink and a swimming pool.

Other snowsports include cross country, snow shoeing and telemark, with all equipment available for hire.

This is a perfect resort for the family, with enough life after dark for everyone bar the most rowdy.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
Nearby Attractions: For those non ski days, Tuesday morning is the time for a 2 hour guided tour of the village, from the tourist office. The surrounding villages can also be toured on different days.

The Ecomuseum Farm le Clos Parchet is located in the nearby village of Mathonex, and the 2 hour tour is full of the history of a typical farm, when life was tough. You can sample some home cooked farm food after the tour.

There are 9 chapels in the village and they can be discovered with a guide or just on your own.

How about a ride in a horse and carriage, for the family it ranges from a 20 minute jaunt for 14 Euro to an hour at 30 Euro.

There are some lovely shops in the village to purchase the local Reblochon cheese and unique gifts associated with the area.
Aprés-Ski: There are over 25 restaurants in the village and on the mountain, which range from sophisticated French cuisine to fast food, and one has a couple of supermarkets for self catering.

There are one or two decent bars outside the hotels, Covey's Irish Pub is perfect if you are missing the Guinness and Craic back home.

There is a nightclub for the dancers and it rocks at weekends.

Samoens - by Simon Swycher from France - 2007-10-03
The village is beautiful and has fantastic access from Geneva. There are some great restaurants such as Le Monde and Table de Fifine. Meet the locals at The Guana. I first came to Samoens 4 years ago.
