Les Portes du Soleil is a huge area covering Haute-Savoie in France and The Valais in Switzerland. The 13 separate resorts are all connected and stretch over 14 valleys and 400 square miles.
As you would expect in an area of this size, the resorts all have something different to bring to the party, from the highest at nearly 3000m to the lower gentler slopes.
The French resorts of Portes du Soleil are Avoriaz, Chatel, La Chapelle d'Abondance, Les Gets, Montriond, Morzine and St. Jean D'Aulps. Each offering a different atmosphere and ambiance. |

Nearby Attractions: The huge area has a wide range of attractions for a non skiing day and they vary from resort to resort. Most of the villages have a tourist office to direct you to the attractions. There are a number of winter festivals in all the villages and the whole area has well marked scenic hiking trails, a day walking the mountain range will be richly rewarding.
So if you want to see cheese making, museums or historic sights and buildings, then this is your kind of area. |
| Aprés-Ski: You can keep your ski's on in most of the resorts for the night skiing. The restaurant, bar and nightclub scene varies, but is lively in the bigger resorts like Les Gets, Avoriaz and Chatel. The other resorts can be quieter, so do your homework if you want plenty of apres ski. |
