The largest ski area in the French Pyrenees. Though the Pyrenees tend to be the poor relation of the Alps in popularity, but the quality of the runs and snow is excellent and because the Alps are a more popular destination for the visitor, you are sure of a warmer welcome here and your holiday tends to be better value.
Bareges used to be a spa and is an old established resort. New skiers will find the gentle slopes suitable, while La Mongie has runs catering for the more advanced.
The season is fairly short, but there are only queues sometimes at weekends.
As a visitor you are treated well and not like the lemming like Alps. |

Nearby Attractions: The Thermal baths in the Barenges village is worth a visit. If you feel that your skiing is not going well, then Lourdes is only an hours drive away and it's healing waters could help you perform better on the slopes.
Lourdes has been attracting hordes of religious disciples since the day in February 1858 a little girl had an apparition of The Virgin Mary. It is claimed that 17 others followed. The town has certainly cashed in on the fact and sick people come from all over the world for the "healing waters".
The world famous Cathedral is well worth a visit.
There is also a very interesting and spectacular castle that dates back to 778, the on site museum clearly explains the fascinating history.
Which ever way you do it, this is a great attraction when you want to have a day off skiing. |
Aprés-Ski: There is a quiet night life in the village of Barenges and that consists mainly of restaurants and a few bars.La Rozelle is great for the traditional fondue and good meat dishes. La Coquille do's a barbeque to perfection and delivers to your table. Chez Louisette is a good place for lunch after your hard morning on the piste.
There are one or two bars in the main street and teenagers with lots of energy will be well advised to go elsewhere for all night discos. |

| Beaute
- by Emma Todd from United Kingdom - 2005-07-08 |
| Having done all my skiing in the Alps I was very pleasantly surprised to discover the quality of skiing in the Pyrenees. Beaute is a lovely blue run snaking down through a wild valley filled with miniature pine trees and strewn rocks (off the sides!). The sensation is of being in truly wild mountains - an experience you don't get in the Alps. |

They use two or three star hotel accommodation, usually with good restaurants, which they bundle with ski pass and rental car from local regional airport. |
