 York Minster - Tourist Attraction |
One of Europe's finest Cathedrals and the largest Gothic Cathedral in the world all contribute to make a visit here a must. On entering one can't help, but be awestruck by the size and volume.
Next you can marvel at the stained glass windows and if you are fortunate enough to be here at a choral event, well it's a treat for the ears. Plenty to see here including climbing the Central Tower, Undercroft, Treasury, Crypt and library. There is also a cafe and shop. Take 2-3 hours to do it justice.

 The City Walls - Cutural Attraction |
Take a guided walk, or just stroll along these ancient walls that circle the inner city. Dating back to Roman times these walls have been rebuilt many times, but now look as solid as ever. You will pass the Roman Multangular Tower, St Mary's Abbey, Kings Manor, Bootham Bar and walk over the city gates guarding the entrances such as Micklegate and Monkgate. Good city vista's can be enjoyed as well.

 The National Railway Museum - Tourist Attraction |
Leeman Road, the perfect location by the railway station and one of the largest museums devoted to rail in the world. The outstanding collection traces railway travel back to the unhurried gracious days of steam right up to Eurostar. Plenty of carriages and drivers cabins are on view as well as royal trains, the Japanese bullet train and railway art and posters.

 The Jorvik Viking Centre - Tourist Attraction |
Jorvik is the Viking name for York and this centre is built on the site of the original Viking settlement. The city's history is told in a unique manner. The visitor is placed in a time capsule and transported to the earliest days of York via a series of re-created scenes of everyday life. You will see the sights, hear the sounds and even smell the odours of the day. Kids love this sort of thing and are given a chance to dress up and learn the Viking crafts in the small museum at the end of the tour.

 York Castle Museum - Cutural Attraction |
Located in the centre of town next to Clifford's Tower. The fine museum is housed in the former debtors prison. It's a huge museum and focuses on everyday life in the cobbled Victorian streets. Be transported back down a typical Victorian High Street, Half Moon Court (an Edwardian Street), Dick Turpins cell and special exhibits. Take a few hours for this.

 The Shambles - Tourist Attraction |
In the old city you will find one of the best preserved medieval streets in Europe (And that’s saying something), The windy narrow cobbled street is a bit claustrophobic as you are pulled in on both sides by the tall buildings and overhangs. Originally the street was a centre for butchers and now lots of interesting craft, gift and sweet shops intermingle with restaurants and cafes.

 Museum Gardens - Natural Attraction |
A lovely large park in the middle of York at the rear of the Yorkshire Museum covering 10 acres. Enter by Museum Street. A perfect place to relax after a hard day's sightseeing, but in this town there is no escaping history! As the haunting ruins of St Mary's Abbey are contained in the garden and they date back to 1086 when it was the most influential Benedictine Monastery.

| Set down Coney street, Baibin's café is a great place for a nice "cuppa" and is definitely worth going there to relax. I know the woman who owns it (Susan) and she is really welcoming. I definitely recommend it! |
