 Military Museums - Cutural Attraction |
Peninsula Barracks, Romsey Road, The five museums are located in the same area and to visit them all might be a bit tiring and probably the best one is The Greenjackets Museum where you can test your marksmanship, try out a guillotine or see the centrepiece of a re-creation of the Battle of Trafalgar with toy soldiers. The others are The Ghurkha Museum, The Royal Hussars, The Light Infantry and The Royal Hampshire Regiment.

 The City Museum - Cutural Attraction |
One of the oldest museums outside the capital and is dedicated to tracing Winchester's interesting history, from it's earliest Roman days (featuring a full Roman mosaic floor taken from a local villa). Also many important Roman finds. The original shop interiors from some High Street shops are also re-created.

 Winchester Folk Festival - Local Festival or Holiday |
This annual festival takes place in May and it is worth planning your stay here around that time. The cream of English Folk music descend on the town to carry on a long old tradition of singing, dancing, street parades, Morris dancing and partying.

This is a charming riverside walk along the River Itchen from behind the walls of St John's Alms Houses and you will spot a former warehouse that has been converted into flats. (Part of the river is used by the collage for boating) Ending at Wolvesley Castle which was once a Norman stronghold and is not much to look at now.

The longest running street fair in Britain takes place in July each year for 3 days. The fair derives it's name from the hats held out by the many street performers for various charity's. Go to the end of the High Street and climb up Castle Hill, Not much left of the Castle erected in the 13th century by the Normans.Reconstructed by Henry III, a long and interesting history of early English royalty (You will enjoy the story of the round table)
The Great Hall is the only recognisable structure, but the history is worth discovering. Queen Eleanor's Medieval Garden is a pleasant stroll to round off your visit.
