 Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery - Cutural Attraction |
Located in Castle Road, William the Conqueror had a hand in building the original fortification in 1068 and this castle was constructed in 1679. The city enjoys a rich history and it is told through the History of Nottingham Gallery which includes rare ceramics, sculpture and paintings.
The original castle's only remaining remains is an underground tunnel (Mortimer's Hole) that leads to the pub, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem.

 Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre - Natural Attraction |
29km to the north of Nottingham off the A614. Probably a must for any visitor to the area and lovers of the Robin Hood legend. The centre takes full advantage of the Merry Men in it's gift section. There are many marked trails telling the story including Edwinstowe church, where he tied the knot with Maid Marion. There is a free exhibition at the centre and also a lovely cafe serving traditional meals.

 Brewhouse Yard Museum - Cutural Attraction |
At the foot of Castle Rock is this series of 5, 17th century cottages depicting life in Nottingham through the ages in the furnished rooms and shops. Below the houses are a number of cellars cut into the rock of the castle. A nice feature is a high street from about 70 years ago. This will give the visitor a good insight into the towns history.

 Robin Hood Festival - Local Festival or Holiday |
Sherwood Forest Visitors Centre, What else would you expect from Nottingham, this annual event is held in August for a week. So if you like your knights in shining armour, medieval fighting skills, jousting competitions, strolling minstrels, juggling and jesting, archery and of course everyone involved wears costume. This fun event ends with a procession through the forest.

 Newstead Abbey - Cutural Attraction |
Take the A60 19km north of the town to the former home of the great British poet Lord Byron, who bought the Abbey in 1540 and it has since been restored in the neo gothic style. Some of Byron's original works are on display in the interesting house. The gracious gardens are a joy and within it's 300 acres are waterfalls, rose gardens, Japanese water garden and a Monk's Stew Pond.

1 Brewhouse Yard, Just a subterranium tunnel trip from the Castle. Another claimant for Britain's oldest pub, but it does have an olde English atmosphere. They even have a museum room. As to the tradition they serve real ale mostly from the local brewers Hardy and Hanson and sometimes have a guest ale. Good bar food is served and there is also an upstairs bar.
