What puts Canterbury on the map is the magnificent Cathedral. Founded in 597AD by St Augustine, Destroyed and rebuilt in 1070. No visit to the city would be complete without a walk around it's gothic interior.
Geoffrey Chaucer wrote about it in his classic "The Canterbury Tales" and many people who shaped England's history are buried here including King Henry IV.

You will spot the remains of this Norman Castle in Castle Street. The Norman's built this fortress in the 11th century and it now forms part of the city's wall. In the 13th century it served as the counties jail, but now it's just about the walls that remain.
