The Cathedral of Almeria - Tourist Attraction
The Cathedral is centrally located in the old part of town. Constructed in 1524 after an earthquake destroyed it 2 years earlier. Looks more like a castle than a Cathedral, Due to the raids into the area from North Africa. The airy interior has a gothic ribbed ceiling and some interesting designs on the stonework.

Restaurant Sol de Almeria - Restaurant or Cafe
You will find this popular restaurant on the Calle Circunvalacion. Close to the covered Mercado. The restaurant is fair sized and decorated in Andalucian style. The chef prepares local well prepared delicacies with panache. The service is bright and friendly and portions are a good size. Daily specials are always on offer and the wine list includes the usual Spanish favourites.

Muralla de Jairan of Almeria - Cutural Attraction
The wall was constructed in the 11th century by Jairan, the first ruler of Almeria. The wall is interrupted by some hefty towers and fortresses with their thick walls and round towers. Some lovely formal garden areas are dotted in between the bastions. Most of the wall is in a good state of preservation and the views are worth the walk.

Mae West - Bar or Club
Located opposite el parque. Always wanted to learn to dance?, then this is the place for you and the lessons are even free, mind you Manolo might not be too keen to teach guys. Its right on the beach and all the classic steps are taught including Tango, Marengue, Cha Cha Cha and the Mambo. The club has an Irish theme (Why the name?). Popular and always busy.

Gran Hotel Almeria - Hotel
Reina Regente 8, The hotel was constructed in the 60s and unlike many in Spain is actually finished. The rooms are modern and furnished in style, with en-suite, mini bars and satellite dishes. The stylish restaurant specialises in local Andalucian cuisine and also offers international fare. There is a cosy and informal coffee shop where you can relax with a drink and snack. The inviting pool is an ideal way to cool down.

Mojacar - Tourist Attraction
This is a beautiful day trip from Almeria and birth place of Walt Disney. Apart from that fact the resort is about an hours drive along the north coast from Almeria. Stroll along the small windy pristine Moorish streets, complete with plazas with stunning views. There are always plenty of tourists in this popular town, but that has taken nothing away from it's charm. Mojacar pulses at night throbbing to the sounds of many pubs, clubs and disco's.

Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata-Nijar - Natural Attraction
Just 30 km north of Almeria lies this 60km of unspoilt and protected coast that stretches inland. You will discover hidden coves, white sandy beaches and dramatic jagged cliffs on a drive following the coastline. Flamingos flock to the areas salt marshes, and further inland the scenery changes to desert and barren mountains. For the nature lover and bird watcher this is a perfect morning or day trip from Almeria.

Alcazaba - Cutural Attraction
Originally constructed in 995, this Moorish fortress commands magnificent views over the town and sea. The Alcazaba covers an area of 14 acres and straddles 2 ridges. An enlightening couple of hours can be enjoyed here whilst learning about the early history of Almeria. Free entrance for EU citizens and there are guided tours in English by day and in Spanish in the night.

Almeria Flamenco Festival - Local Festival or Holiday
This world class event takes place in August every year and features some of the best dancers and guitarists in Spain. For nearly 40 years Flamenco fans have been gathering at Plaza de la Constitucion to celebrate the music and colour that makes Spain the vibrant place it is.

Almereia Shopping - Tourist Attraction
Ceramics is the main craft of the area though Textiles and basket making are widely practised. Carpentry and Coral carvings are also popular with visitors.

You will find many small gift shops around the town displaying distinctive bright colourful bowls, vases and jugs. Textile design is influenced by the Moor's and fine pieces can be widely found mainly in the form of throws and blankets;
