Musee Gallo-Romain - Cutural Attraction
17, rue Cléberg, Lyon. A vast collections of artifacts originating from southeast Gaul, dating as far back as the 7th century to the end of the Gallo-Roman era, is housed here. The themes of the exhibits range from ceramics, precious metals, glass, architecture, sculpture, epitaphs, bronzes, coins to mosaics. Be sure not to miss the exhibit of the Claudian tablet.

This bronze piece contains an inscription of part of a speech that was made before the Roman Senate by Emperor Claudius in 48 A.D.

Metro Fourvière Funicular. Open in March to October Wednesday to Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm and in November to February Wednesday to Sunday from 9.30 am to noon and 2 pm to 6 pm. Admission is €3.

Pérouges - Tourist Attraction
place du Tilleul, Pérouges. Situated about 29 km northeast of Lyon, this well-preserved medieval city has featured in many movies like "the Three Musketeers" It is a popular attraction and is visited by filmmakers and tourists from around the globe. This charming little place was home to weavers, farmers and craftsmen in days when the city was active. It is believed that it was founded by a Gallic community after returning from Perogia in Italy because of the similarities between the two towns. It was built on the side of a hill and is safely tucked away behind the battlements and trees. An intriguing little place. Guided tours take place daily from 8 am to 11 pm. Admission: 50f per person. Groups of 10 pay 250f in total. The place both to overnight and eat in Pérouges, is the Ostellerie du Vieux Pérouges, a medieval town house on place Tilleul. The restaurant serves traditional medieval dishes like rabbit and carp.

Parc de la Tête d'Or - Natural Attraction
Lyon. The Park of the Golden Head got its name because legend has it that the golden head of Christ is buried in the park. The park is breathtakingly beautiful and has brought joy to the lives of many since 1857. The botanical garden with greenhouses filled with exotic plant species and the magnificent rose garden provides a blissful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. For a perfect ending to your outing, visit to the zoo in the park. Metro: Massena/Foch. Admission is free. The park is open from in April to September from 6 am to 11 pm and October to March from 6 am to 9 pm. The hours of the Botanical Garden is 9 am to 11.30 am and again from 1.30 pm to 4.45 pm. You can visit the Zoo from 8 am to 5 pm.

Bernachon - Tourist Attraction
42, cours Franklin-Roosevelt, Lyon. If you are a "Chocoholic", you have to visit this shop! Here you will find more than 50 different types of luxury chocolates. Monsieur Bernachon, the creator of these heavenly treats, uses only best quality cocoa beans from South America and Asia. With his magic touch he transforms them into decadent and irresistible treats. You can also order tarts and croissants, pralines à la orange or Rococos. Just down the road from this shop you'll find the well-respected Bocuse & Bernachon, 46 cours Franklin-Roosevelt, which sells both the chocolates of Bernachon as well as the upscale food products endorsed by gastronomic superstar Paul Bocuse. Pure bliss!

Léon de Lyon - Restaurant or Cafe
1 rue Pleney, Lyon. This private home, now a restaurant, has welcomed many famous guests from Charles Aznavour to Bill Clinton. Jean-Paul Lacombe, the owner, is known for serving regional and modern cuisine with innovative flair. Some of the favourites dishes are pheasant soup with foie gras and red beans, pike quenelles (fish balls), or lobster with asparagus. For the adventurous gastronome the fare include from local swine served with foie gras and an onion terrine, to quenelles of brochet (a local fish) in red wine served with lobster sauce and freshwater crayfish. And if you are really adventurous, try the Lyonnais offal which is prepared in a really unique way. The sorbets made with fresh fruits are a perfect ending. Open on Tuesdays to Saturdays 2 pm and 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm. Closed between August 1 to 21. Reservations are recommended.

Cour des Loges - Hotel

Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière - Cutural Attraction
8 place de Fourvière, Lyon. Inside this amazing cathedral you will find a collection of beautiful mosaics, statues and stained glass. The cathedral was built as a dedication to and in honor of the Virgin Mary. The four towers of the cathedral each represents a cardinal virtue: strength, temperance, prudence, and justice. Followers of the Virgin still flood to the church, which still represents her virtue and power to her people. METRO: Fourviere de Fourvière. Open daily from 6 am to 7 pm. Organised visits/tours take place on Wednesday and Friday from 2.30 pm.

Nightlife - Bar or Club
The best pub in town is the Smoking Dog, 16 rue Lainerie Tel 04-78-28-38-27, a festive neighborhood bar with a crowd of all ages. Rock 'n' rollers should head over to the old train station to Millennium, 13 place J.-Ferry Tel 04-72-74-04-41. This where the up-and-coming yuppie crowd hang out. Check out Le Box-Office, 30 bd. Eugène-Deruelle Tel 04-78-95-37-02, with its brash techno crew. The cover charge at these clubs ranges from 12€ to 16€. Le Hot Club, 26 rue Lanterne Tel 04-78-39-54-74, is the place to go if you are a Jazz lover. At the popular Le Bar du Centre, 3 rue Simon-Maupin Tel 04-78-37-40-18, you can relax, have a drink, and strike up a conversation with what one of the bartenders called "the hottest men in Lyon."

Special Events - Tourist Attraction
Festivals in Lyon are held practically every day, especially in summer. This when music festivals reign supreme. The most popular occurs on France's National Day of Music, around June 21. During the Fête de la Musique the streets of Lyon turn into performance spaces for local bands.

The Festival de Musique du Vieux-Lyon takes place in churches around the city in December.

La Croix-Rousse - Tourist Attraction
boulevard de la Croix-Rousse, Lyon. La Croix-Rousse is the old silk-weavers' district and spreads up the steep slopes of the hill above the northern end of the Presqu'île. It is still a working-class area, but only a couple of dozen people operate the modern high-speed computerized looms

At La Maison des Canuts at 10–12 rue d'Ivry, north of place de la Croix-Rousse you can watch traditional looms in mesmerizing action. Open on Monday to Friday 8.30 am to noon and 2 pm to 6.30 pm, Saturday 8.30 am to noon and 2 pm to 6 pm. Admission is €3. Here you will see the rare and beautiful silk, damask and brocade that is produced by this ancient home-weavers' co-operative.

Take time to explore the many streets running down from boulevard de la Croix-Rousse as well as many across the river in Vieux Lyon. These alleyways and tunneled passages, known as traboules, originally provided shelter from the weather for the silk-weavers as they moved their delicate pieces of work from one part of the manufacturing process to another
