Abbaye de Cadouin - Cultural Attraction
Not in Bergerac, but just 30 minutes from Bergerac is Cadouin, a pretty little village which is home to the beautiful cloitre of Cadouin. The abbey of Cadouin is cited as one of the 'sites du Patrimoine mondial' of the pilgrim routes of the Route of Saint Jaques de Compostelle. The holy shroud of Cadouin was an object of pilgrimage for eight centuries. Although the village centre was being resurfaced when we were visiting the work was nearly finished. Its a relaxing little place and we had lunch in a small restaurant on the square. We had been recommended by friends to eat at a nearby restaurant Auberge de La Salvetat, but they were closed until the end of March. We will certainly return to this area - its so beautiful and unspoilt - but next time it will be for longer!
