Lubbock Travel Guide

Lubbock Local History

Lubbock is the result of the merging of Old Lubbock and its close neighbour Monterey. This occurred in 1891 with the understanding that the merge would be mutually beneficial to both towns. The coming of the railroad in 1909 was greatly beneficial to the development of Lubbock as it made the flow of goods and people far easier. In 1972, Lubbock was free to sell liquor thereby losing its status as the largest dry city in the country.
