Irving Local History
Settlers arrived in the area that is now Irving in the 1850's and the town was eventually incorporated in 1914. The town was named after one of the founders favourite authors Washington Irving.
The town became a center for cotton growing, truck farming, dairy and poultry production. The proximity to Dallas ensured a constant demand for these goods and the town prospered.
