Knoxville Museum of Art - 1050 World's Fair Park Drive (in the park), Telephone number (865) 525-6101 - is home to a collection of paintings and an interesting sculptured garden with a 200-year-old elm tree being the focal point. The museum is open on Tuesdays Thursday and Saturday from 10am–5pm and on Fridays from 10am–9pm and Sundays from 12pm to 5pm. The enterance fee is $7.

Frank H. McClung Museum - Circle Park. All about the city's history, you can view art and archeological displays. Hours are from 9am to 5pm on Mondays through to Saturdays and from 1pm to 5 pm on Sundays. Enterance is free.

The Gateway Regional Visitor Center - 900 Volunteer Landing Lane, Telephone number 1-800/727-8045 - Set amongst the waterfalls and greenery, you will find riverside restaurants and a marina complex. The center represents Tennessee's nuclear accomplishments as well as it's natural resources. It is open every day from 9am to 5pm.

World's Fair Park - 1060 World's Fair Park Drive, Telephone - 865-215-1158 or 800-727-8045. An amusement park situated on the western edge of downtown and home to the Sunsphere. This is a huge glass ball mounted on a round concrete tower - youv'e got to see it to believe it. Entrance is free and they are open from 9 am to 4.30 pm Mondays to Saturdays. There are plenty of restaurants around so you can always rest up for a bite to eat

Knoxville Zoo - Take Interstate 40 to exit 392. After exiting, follow the signs to Knoxville Zoo - for more detailed directions log onto http://www.knoxville-zoo.org/information.htm During certain times of the year some of the animals are brought inside due to extreme weather conditions. During the summer months the zoo is open from Mondays through Fridays, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays, 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. In winter 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. every day. Admission fees are - adults - $10.95 each, children 3-12: $6.95 each and children under 3 are free. Strollers and wheelchairs can be hired, the Safari Grill offers full meals for the entire family and the Zoo Shop is open from 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Knoxville Parks & Gardens

Fountain City Lake & Park - 117 Hotel Road, North Knoxville (left off the Broadway exit, about a mile north). A tranquil area made up of 8 acres of open space. There are a few sheltered picnic spots but plenty of walking trails and a lake. For the more energetic, there's an outdoor basketball court and a playground for the kids.

Inskip Pool & Park - 4204 Bruhin Road, Northwest Knoxville, Telephone - (865) 687-9919. To reach the park, travel on the I-75 North to Merchant's Road Exit. Right off exit and first right onto Central Avenue Pike. At the 2nd traffic light, turn left onto Bruin Road and the park and pool are 1/4 mile further on, on the right. There's 12 acres of park with tennis courts and a swimming pool and a playground for the kids. With it's shelters and restrooms you can take the opportunity to wind down and relax.
