Omaha Travel Guide

Omaha Attractions

Top Attractions

Boys and Girls Town - This started as a home for troubled and abandoned boys and has since become an American institution. A movie highlighting the problems of troubled children and based on the centre was made many years ago and touched the heart of Americans enough to turn this home into a tourist site. Something else to see on the site is the All American Rose and Biblical Gardens.

Durham Western Heritage Museum - This is where you can learn all about Omaha history including how the town's citizens used to live by seeing home replica's with period furnishings. Those who are not into household effects may perhaps be more interested in the restored trains and cars that used to commute in the town.

Old Market - Although this is the old part of town, some of the best shops and restaurants in Omaha are here. From Farnam to Jackson streets there are turn of the century streets and buildings that are best explored on foot to get the best out of it.

CoCo Key Water Resort CoCo Key Water Resort will be open October 2007. It's an indoor 60,000sq ft. water park and has an arcade. You can enter for a day with a day pass or schedule your birthday party there!

Omaha Shopping

Nebraska Crossing Shopping Factory Stores - Over 40 famous brand names are offloaded here, direct from the factory to the stores and at prices that are softer on the pocket.

Westroads Mall - There are 140 retail stores and a 12 unit food court in this complex.

Oak View Mall - The best thing in this mall is the Disney store and most people seem to think so too as children and adults alike flock to this store.

Omaha Activities

Omaha Children's Museum - The museum's thrust is to make learning fun with some creativity rolled into it as well. Children can build a house or do some farming in some of the many activities.

Boulder Creek Amusement Park - If you fancy scaling a 24 ft wall, then this is the place to be. This family entertainment complex has a mini golf with sand straps and water hazards.

Fun Plex - In central 7003 Q Str you will find this water park with loads of water based activities.

Omaha Parks & Gardens

Heartland of America Park - A computerised fountain called the Heart of American Fountain graces this park by shooting 300ft of water into the air.

Lee G Simmons Conservation Park Wildlife Safari - You can imagine that you are on safari somewhere in Africa. You drive through this park in your vehicle with all the windows closed and view the freely roaming animals like just like being on safari in Africa.

Omaha Restaurants and Bars

Omaha Restaurants

Champss Americana - There are big television screens all over the place and while it describes itself as a sports bar and restaurant, children are welcome and have their own menu. To get an idea of what the menu offers, there is a French onion soup au gratin at US$2,75 a cup which is a nice beef broth with onion chunks and lots of Provolone cheese. The restaurant is in the Oak View Mall.

Wheatfields Eatery and Bakery - They make cheese, meat or dessert fondues for between US$8.99 to $10.99. It is a Euro style cafe known for its crepes, omelets, desserts and and casseroles. There are more than 50 desserts to chose from which makes choice quite difficult but the Alpine Torte cake witch has lots of chocolate and cream seems to be a winner. The restaurant can be found on 1224 South 103rd Street.

Imperial Sea - The outside looks like a Chinese palace and the interior is also quite grand with linen topped tables, laquer chairs and a showy pagoda gracing the centre of the dining room.

Jaipur Brewing Company - Few would have imagined an Indian restaruant combining Indian cooking techniques with American food like Atlantic salmon and seared top sirloin but this venue does this very effectively. The recommended Indian dishes are the Chicken Tikki Naan and vegetable curry. This restaurant is found in west central Omaha in the Rockbrooke Village Shopping Center.

Omaha Bars & Clubs

Crescent Moon House - There is television, entertainment, beer and wine. What more could any one ask? It is on 3578 Farnam.

Green Onion Lounge - The nearby golf club ensures that there is a steady stream of golfers dropping in for stiff drinks to ease their joints. But this venue doesn't just attract sportsmen types. The jukebox with easy listening and country music ensures a mixed crowd.

The Dubliner - This pub is located underground in the Old Market. You need to look for the sign on the street and then descend some stairs where you will find an interesting Irish bar with more than 100 different types of beers to choose from. The pub burger, chips and soup go for US$3.75.

Bar 415 - Some have said that this club could well have been in New York than small town Omaha for the kind of superior entertainment that is provides. Local jazz bands play from a stage suspended from a ceiling in a long dark room dominated by a wooden bar.

Omaha children's activities

Omaha Children's Museum - The museum's thrust is to make learning fun with some creativity rolled into it as well. Children can build a house or do some farming in some of the many activities.

Boulder Creek Amusement Park - If you fancy scaling a 24 ft wall, then this is the place to be. This family entertainment complex has a mini golf with sand straps and water hazards.
