Annapolis Local History

Origionally named Anne Arundel Town in honour of Princess Anne, Annapolis was founded by Puritains in 1649. The original town was built on the northern shore of the Seven River but by 1670 the settlement on the south side was much larger and it became the capital of the whole colony.
