Annapolis Local History

Origionally named Anne Arundel Town in honour of Princess Anne, Annapolis was founded by Puritains in 1649. The original town was built on the northern shore of the Seven River but by 1670 the settlement on the south side was much larger and it became the capital of the whole colony.

Glen Burnie Ice Skating Rink - located in the centre of charming Glen Burnie Town, this is an outdoor ice skating rink. Open Daily.

Historic London Town and Gardens - this national historic landmark has archaeological digs uncovering new artefacts daily as well as original 18th century building sites. Tour the William Brow House built in the 1700's and the woodland gardens.

Annapolis Maritime Museum - the exhibits and artefacts celebrate the people who worked and built boats in Chesapeake Bay as well as exhibits on boat building, yacht racing, recreational boating and 400 years of maritime history.

Maryland State House - the oldest state capitol building in the USA that is still in legislative use. See the old senate chamber, where the treaty of Paris was ratified.

Arundel Mills is one of Marylands ultimate shopping destinations with chain and theme stores and speciality manufacturers.
