Clearwater Local History

Clearwater was only known to the Native Americans namely the Timucuan, Calusa and Apalachee tribes. What was once located along the high bluffs, you can now find City Hall and downtoun Clearwater. In 1822 Florida became a territory. 1835 during the Seminole Indian Wars, the government built the original Fort Harrison as a recuperation Center for the soldiers. In 1841, the fort was abandoned and today its commemorated by a plaque on Druid Road downtown Clearwater.
The first blacks who settled in the area arrived with the Narvaez's exploration party.
Dr. Odet Philippe, who was French served under General Napoleon Bonaparte, established St. Helena plantation which is now known as Safety Harbor and there they grew citrus. Today Clearwater is the county seat of Pinellas County and can be found on the highest coastal bluff in Florida. Two most important airports can be found nearby Tampa International Airport and St. Petersburg/Clearwater Internation Airport.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium - Here you will find interesting programs for all age groups. This aquarium is home to many marine animals rescued and rehabilitated. Because most of the sick or injured animals are released, some marine animals have found a permanent home at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, and this only depends on the type of injuries or permanent disabilities.

The Clearwater Marine Aquarium features animals such as the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, several species of sea turtle and last but not least the North American river otters.

The hours are from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday 9am to 4pm, Sunday 11am to 4pm. Admission fees for adults $8,75, children $6,25 9ages 3 to 12), Group rates $4,75 per person, minimum 20, a reservation is definitely required. Education rate is available (schools, home schools and nonprofit organizations). Special rates for 20 or more people. Reservations and proof of your education status is a prerequisite. Guided tours are available on request.

This is the only Authentic British Pub and Restaurant found in this area. The food you are served is traditional British food and Imported Beer.

The British favourites which is served are you Fish and Chips, Steak and Kidney Pie, Cornish Pasty, Bangers and Mash. If thats not good enough for your appetite enjoy T-Bones, Sirloin, and Rump steaks, Pork chops, lamb chops all cooked to your taste. If you don't entirely want to eat that why not ask for the nightly "Chef's specials". Alcohol is served on request. If you interested in singing why don't you come to one of the Karaoke Nights. Here they feature "Okie Dokie Karaoke" with you "Brummie" host David and Sue. Karaoke Night is every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Domenic Forlini is the owner and chef who is Italian Born from the Marches region of Italy. Domenic's meals are only made from fresh ingredients.

Homemade pasta, soups and desserts are made and prepared by Domenic's wife, Fulvia. They have a wine cellar which is temperature controlled. The temperature is kept at 58 degrees. Domenic's wine lists have been recognized by The Tampa Bay Magazine as the best wine list. Each night wine specials are run. There are about ten or more wines been offered by the glass and bottle.
