Hovenweep National Monument - The monument protects five prehistoric, Puebloan-era villages spread over a twenty-mile expanse of mesa tops and canyons along the Utah-Colorado border. Visitors are amazed at the multi-storied towers, which are perched on canyon rims and balanced on boulders. Hovenweep is noted for its lack of development and solitude. There is visitor centre, campground and interpretive trail.

Sleeping Ute Mountain southwest of the town. The town is in a spectacular setting with the Sleeping Ute Mountain being visible from all over area.

McPhee Reservoir - Just 12 miles north of Cortez is, a large, watery playground suited for camping, boating, and fishing (mostly bass and bluegill). For more cast-and-reel adventures, find the Dolores River, an excellent trout stream that stretches 11 miles from the reservoir to Cortez.

Once Upon A Sandwich - 1 West Main Street. This is the place to go if you just want a snack. There is a wide selection of sandwiches available here.

Francisca's - 125 E Main Street. You can tell from the crowds that this is the best place in town for authentic Mexican food.

The Dry Dock Restaurant - 200 W Main Street. The restaurant serves up excellent seafood in its tranquil garden.

El Grande Cafe - 28 E. Main Street This restaurant serves good food at reasonable prices.

Cortez Bars & Clubs

Main Street Brewery - 21 E Main Street serves a good range of beers and bar food. It also offers a full menu and a craft brewery, full bar. Their beef from their own herd of Angus cattle.

Glade Sports Bar and Grill - 44 West Main Street. Popular with locals and tourists alike, this is a good place to spend an hour or two.

Koko's Friendly Pub Holiday Inn Express, 2121 E-Main Street. A friendly place with a good range of drinks and a convivial atmosphere.
